Question

I've noticed that a few databases containing DOC files are backed up every time I do a hot sync. It's not really a problem, but it's an unnecessary waste of time and batteries.

Using a program called z'catalog, I can see that the DOCs in question have the "backup" bit set, whereas *most* other DOCs (that don't get needlessly backed up all the time) don't have the "backup" bit set.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I guess I could just try switching off the backup bit, but that wouldn't explain why the other DOC files with the backup bit set don't get backup up every time.

And a more general question: What is the real use of the various database bits? Can anyone point me at an article that explains what they're all used for?

Basically is about a program called Backup Buddy which I recommend. I only have been playing with it for a short while but from what I can see it works nice and you can exclude documents from the backup. This should allow you to NOT backup any file you want up when syncing just as you want.

This is also nice as it backups up a lot of files that the normal sync does not.
