Will You Buy New Springboard Modules?

This is for current Visor Owners or those that would buy a Visor to get a module. Are you willing to buy new Springboard modules for your existing Visor?

I've got a thinmodem, backup module, FlashPlus, eyemodule2, a battery charger, and the stepkeeper. My Prism is never without the FlashPlus, which renders useless the FlipCover I had been using. Love the FlipCover though. I don't use the thinmodem since I got the data cable for my cell phone, and the eyemodule2 was overcome by a birthday present of a digital camera (Canon ELPH S300). I don't use the stepkeeper for fear of losing it for good. The module holder doesn't stay attached very well and freqently I've felt it drop onto the ground.

Aside from a GPS unit, I don't have an interest in any other module.

I'm not going to invest any more money into my Prism when it seems clear Springboard technology isn't going to be in the Handspring product lines.

I still have several modules on my list of things to get. Memplug for one, maybe a Total Recall, perhaps the thinmodem+, Eyemodule2 (or Handcam), and a GPS to name a few.

Whether or not the rumours of the Springboard's demise are true or not (I don't think so though, despite what people have read into what Handspring high muckymucks have said), the springboard offers expansion capabilities that none of the other PDAs offer (except for Handera) without dangly things or big ugly sleds. And those things are actual products *now*, not waiting for an I/O spec like SD/MMC, or waiting to be released (i.e. bluetooth Memstick).

All I need now is for someone to make a wired ethernet module and I'll be all set. And for my wife to look the other way when I go on my spending spree.

Nope, I have decided after hearing the discontinue annoucment to not purchase any more accessories for my Vdx sans screen protectors. I'm saving my money for a new Palm or something...

Hey, Just last week I got the VP but that isn't really purchasing since it is free.

If the come up with a 16 back up model for below $50 sure. Other tha that I don't see it happening. But, you never know.

Happy Treo 600 user, so far. Thanx Cingular for having an unlocked phone.

My Treo 600 is my phone, my PDA, my watch, and my MP3 player. Oh yeah, I take a picture once in a while with it. Convergence is such a great thing.

As long as my Prism is useful to me, I will continue to buy Springboard modules. Right now I am eyeing that Innogear special on their MP3 player. $89.00 is pretty cheap, even though they use a proprietary format on their MMC cards...
I also have been eyeing a GPS module, although I don't really NEED it...
If someone could come out with a $150 Wireless LAN module, I would look at that too. $299.00 for the Xircom is just overpriced... It does not use any different technology than the PCMCIA 802.11 cards that run for $89.00. Adding a $200.00 "Springboard Tax" is a little absurd.

No. I only use one module (the 16MB one--with backupbuddy I don't use the backup module anymore).

I find swapping modules to annoying (GPFs, etc.), the price prohibitive, the modules too big and, frankly, the biggest reason...I don't expect my next Palm OS device to have a springboard slot, so why invest?

I still love my Visor Prism

I have the backup module which I purchased because it doesn't have a flash ram.

It is all I need.

If, when and might get a treo, then I might think about a GPS module for the Visor.

Absolutely! If anything - the rumor of the demise made me jump on buying those modules I've been putting off. I'll keep buying modules until they stop making module compatible Visors - and even then I'll probably buy a couple of the very last generation Visors to keep as backups.

Even if I were to one day move on to a different platform - the Visor, with a stowaway, a modem, a backup card, and a CF card make a great traveling combination. (beats carrying around a journal, a laptop, and a handful of books to read).

i just recently (january) bought my visor deluxe, and boy did i buy it at the right time.

i got it for $80 new from tiger direct ($100 minus $20 refund because they ran out of the advertised bundled software).

then office depot starts liquidating their visor-related stuff. i've bought a stowaway keyboard (which i'm looking to sell; still sealed in box with receipt ) and a magellan gps from there. both REALLY GOOD deals. i couldn't have justified buying either at their regular price ($100 & $150 respectively) because i don't "need" them. but i could justify buying them at the price i did.

i bought a smartmedia memplug on sale from amazon.com for around $45, and i would have paid the regular/usual $50 price for it, but i waited a short while and found it on sale. with hopefully more vfs-enabled software coming out (driven by the new vfs-enabled palms and handeras) my memplug is starting to become really useful (besides for just backup; though compared to the list-price of a 8 mb backup unit from handspring or others, the memplug is a great deal as it's A LOT more versatile).

the memplug is the only module that i, dare to say, would pay full price for. i don't need (ie can't justify the expense of) any other modules. i don't really need the gps unit i bought, but for $35 total (even after tax), the same price as a good road atlas or a single town "mapsco", i've got the hardware and software to not only tell me how to get from here to there, but to tell me where exactly "here" is (in case i don't know ).

i don't need a voice recorder module, and i definitely wouldn't pay the $100 list price, not even the $25 office depot liquidation price, but if i found it for $10 or $15 i would buy it. why? economics.

i'm only willing to pay for the perceived utility i would receive from it. anybody who's taken economics 101 will know that "utility" is the measure of (perceived) usefulness that someone will receive from purchasing/having a product. i don't perceive a handheld as being of much value to me, so i didn't buy one until it hit the $100 mark. i don't perceive the gps unit as being of much value to me, and definitely not more than $35 i paid for it. i think the memplug is valuable (for backups, viewing photos from my digital camera, and storing large files [ie documents, maps, etc]) for how i use my visor, and worth the $50, so i bought it.

essentially: i find many of the modules unnecessary and overpriced, and as such, i'm unwilling to buy them. (i'm sure many people with disagree with me, especially considering i probably sound as if i would think they are idiots for buying overpriced useless modules, but remember, i'm speaking of usefulness TO ME, NOT YOU.)

handspring: take this as a compliment, that my visor does everything i need it to do with only the addition of a memplug.

I would buy more modules, granted they're not over 100 bux. I got into this "hobby" rather late, and luckily for me, many of the "cooler" modules have hit the bargain bin.

I might be a year or two behind the times, but at least I can do everything I'd like to do while mobile and more, albeit in 4 shades of grey.

Springboards are NOT dead

I just bought a TigerWoods, Magellan GPS, Targus Digital Recorder modules along with a Targus keyboard at the OfficeDepot clearance sales. This is in addition to my current collection of Xircom 802.11 and 56k modem modules.

Now looking for extra storage modules having filled up my Prism to within 31k of free space!. Perhaps another thread but any suggestions of MemPlug, FlashPlus etc and should one get CF, SecureDigital, MemStick, or SmartData?

I just bought a Prism, upgrading. IF I see a need or a good item on discount, yes I will get another springboard. Currently I've the Handcam and the Memplug CF
