-- VisoRewards Program! (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=15684)

Posted by bblue on 06-04-2001 07:10 AM:

Cool

I am apparently not the only person who thinks Handspring's deals are a bit miniscule when in contrast to the generous ones from Palm.

So I have a concept. Why not create a VisoRewards program? For each friend we reccomed a Visor to (providing they purchase it,) we get $10.00 in SpringCash towards the purchase of a HS-related product. (Like styli, or a SB module, or a Visor!) With the possibility of multiple friends sugguesting it, you could say.. have up to 3 friends who get the $10.00 in SpringCash.

I think it'd make HandSpring's sales take off like crazy! May even contribute to extinguishing the PocketPC! (We can only hope!)

Tell me what you think!

They already have something similar to this. Look here

Cool Yeah..

That's cool, but that's over the internet. I was talking more about IRL, where someone fills out a form and mails it in no matter WHERE they buy it from. And SpringBills would only work for HS-related products, which would allow MORE for less!

Ha ha.. Such a system would be ripe for fraud and dishonesty.

You might be able to pull it off if you made it similar to the rebate system (ie request sent with physical UPC label, etc.), limited the amount of $ given, made it only applicable to online orders directly from Handspring, and limited the amount that could be taken off any given product.

Nevermind. It's too much of a pain (getting the UPC from someone you may not know that well would be awkward - not to mention it'd give a bad impression: "did they recommend the visor because it's a good product, or because they get money for doing so?").

I think that would be kind of awkward too. "Hey fill out this form so I get money from you spending it." I suppose some would have no problem with it, but I would be reluctant for the sake of politeness.

It seems that I am one of the few people who agreee with crazy ideas on this board. VisorScreen. I actually agree that this could be pulled off. Think of Alan's trip, he takes a stack of these forms that you fill out to earn VisorBucks and hands them out with handhelds people buy because of him and he could make a lot of money. It would both be a good marketing idea for Handspring and would help get the word out there. I have a VDX and all the time people call it a Palm and I need to correct them. Now when someone says "Oh that is neat where can I get one?" I can answer that question and make some money doing it. It could be either a paper form or an on the web form, when you register your product by serial number you can enter who reffered you. I think this could fly, put up a poll see what people think. If it is a good response e-mail Handspring and give them the results and links to this board and see what they think.

I think its a great idea. Like David said, just have them do it when they register online. AOL has a similar thing and so does the place I used to work at. I'm not sure how much you should get, maybe $5-$10 for Handhelds and $1-$3 for Modules. Maybe there could be exclusive merchandise avilable only with this SpringCash too, like special colored styli or covers.

It could work.

Yup- I think it could be pulled off too. I get enough people buying because of the little lesson I give them that I'm about ready to make a web page as an affiliate and print out little cards with the address on it so I can make a buck off of any purchases they make. I'd like it if they had little points you could cut off of boxes like Kool-aid points that you could then trade in for products. Springpoints. You know, 50 with the purchase of a handheld and maybe 10 points with a module. Or the points are pro-rated per the price. Anyway, save up so many points and trade them in...

We should draft an e-mail to Handspring and then find the right person in their company to send it to, I sure James could find us the right person to talk to.

Bblue, when I get the time to write one I will include a link to this thread and they could see for themselves that you started it. My guess is that they will blow me off and not implament anything like this but it is worth a try. Can we try and come up with a list of what should be in the e-mail.
