This caught my eye the most.
Is it a mis-print, by low-tech-ers at Amazon? Or is it for real? And how good (could) such a thin one be? But isn't the Palm V line's speaker somehow "louder" than the prev. models? Again, JH designed that -- and prob. the Edge.

Anyway all things considered (which you can bet JH, DD & everyone at HS thought of ad infinitum before pricing the Edge), I can see where they'd price it at $399. It's thin, metal-coated (as I noted on another thread, in the 3D CLOSE UP demo on the HS site, you can see the plastic rim all around the Edge), rechargeable, blinking alarm, etc. Any exec. who owns a Palm V & wanted to go to HS now has a really good reason -- and this has a flip metal lid, too.

I would say that counts against the $100 Premium: I have my eyemodule installed on my VDx all the time, with the new fliptop cover I can forget it.

It screws the whole Springboard concept, (I like the idea of the fliptop cover, but it�s not appropriate for the eyemodule, Visor phone, springboard stuff.......)

Amen to that. I use my springboard modules constantly and an extrasleeve on the back to deal with would just be too much to fiddle with.

I guess maybe the springboard concept is a blessing and a curse. Its size makes it versatile. At the same time it constrains compatible devices to a certain form factor.

Ok I took one look at the Visor Edge and fell in love with it. It even looks better than a PalmVx!!! I am hoping that the the next Visor has the Edge form factor, a color screen that works well in daylight, 16 or 32 megs of ram, and has Palm OS 4.0. (better sound would be a bonus). If it has all of those features, they have a guaranteed a sale right here

I will go on record now and GUARANTEE that Handspring's next device WON'T have the features you mention. They probably will come out with an edge that has a color screen (maybe a TFT one that works well in daylight), but they won't have 32 (or even 16) megs of ram, doubtful they will have PalmOS4.0 (Hawkins claims the edge's current OS extensions make it equivalent to OS4.0) and will not have a substantially better speaker (Hawkins has never given any indications that this is important to him, and would probably just say you can do what you want in a springboard). I wouldn't mind if HS proves me wrong, but I seriously doubt it.

Sick of Handspring.

Handspring is getting to be as bad as Palm. "Lets introduce more models that are the same thing repackaged!"

I pre-ordered a VDX, now I have a platinum which I wish I had never bought now that the edge is out.

Many people wanted the Platinum with rechargeable batteries. Its just a shame it didn't happen this way in the first place.

I like the edge, but I won't make pay more to make a change essentially the same OS, same memory but thinner.

If more color TFTs were available, we would have a color edge today.

Uh lets get some positive energy here Rob. It doesn't hurt to wish

In any case I am very happy with my Prism. So if the new device doesn't have worthy enough features, I won't buy it. The Edge is a very worthy upgrade for Visor Solo, Visor Deluxe, and maybe even Visor Platinum. But that $399 price is a bit steep. You might as well go for a Prism for 50 bucks more.

Yeah, I'm pretty happy with my (16MB) Prism, too. The edge is definitely slick, but I'll wait until it they come out with a color one (and Tellus releases the wireless modem that attaches to the smaller edge connector).

Music to my ears. I just got a Platnium 2 months ago, and was a little mad to hear about the Edge. Until I read it has the same hardware specs but is $100 more, and even more for a serial cradle.
