-- How to delete HsExtensions 3.5.2? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=13072)

Question

I have a new Prism that came with "HsExtensions 3.5.2 v. 1.2" in ROM (which seems to be size 66636 with create date of 11/8/00). My Backup module had this file on it, from my old Prism (size 66664 with create date 6/25/74), and after restoring from Backup module, I now have now have two of these patches installed. How do I delete the one that's not in ROM? I have tried a number of different utilities but none of them can delete it.

I want to remove the one in RAM as I'm concerned that it'll interfere with the other copy.

Thanks

Do a Warm reset... this will prevent the RAM version from loading. You should then be able to delete it using the normal Delete function. Once deleted, do a Soft reset (you'll probably need to re-enable your hacks, if you use them).

Mark,

Thanks for suggestion -- I actually thought that it might work.

Unfortunately, after doing a warm reset (reset + up button), I can only see ONE "HsExtensions 3.5.2 v. 1.2" which is the ROM-based one. I obviously cannot delete that. Doing a soft reset shows two of these files again (with different sizes and dates).

I used the "Applications Delete" function to find this patch and also tried DB Explorer, FirstBase and File Mover. All these apps can only see one copy of the patch after a warm reset.

Do you have BackupBuddy? If so try the following:

1. Backup your visor via BackupBuddy.
2. Delete the HsExtensions file at c:\program file\palm\yourname\backup.
3. Hard Reset your visor.
4. Re-sync your visor. This would restore everything.
5. Reinstall your HsExtensions onto your visor.

Hope this works.

I have a Prism. But this is my one and only, and I do not have backup module. None of the tools I use display a date for a Palm database, but I can see that I have two HsExtensions 3.5.2 v1.2, one in ROM one in RAM. The one in RAM is 66664 bytes and the one in ROM is 66636, just as yours. On doing a warm reset the one in RAM disappears. Therefore I would say, don't worry about it. This is normal.

If you want you could perform an experiment, since your have a Backup module:

After doing a hard reset as A.Yee suggested and restoring all files except this HsExtensions file, I found that the two HsExtensions are still there. I have therefore come to the same conclusion -- that it's normal to have two HsExtensions files.
