I'm about to ask for a third replacement for my VDX. (The first stopped working, the second I dropped, and now the one I have is beginning to crack in different areas). I'm a little tired of continuing to swap VDX's and I was wondering if anyone managed to talk Hansdpring into sending a Platinum as a replacement for a VDX (plus the $50 difference, of course).
I'm guessing that it can't be done, but I thought I'd ask...

I've returned my vdx many times (5+) and every time I asked for a different color. Every time I was told it wouldn't be possible. I doubt they'd do any different with a newer unit. Ask and let me know what they tell you.

After a year of flawless service I had to replace my VDX just a couple of weeks ago. I asked about upgrading and offered to pay the difference. No harm in asking an obvious question. No dice.
Can't blame them. They cannot sell the returned units, only use them as warrenty replacements. I've read the complaints regarding the lack of an upgrade policy but you have to remember that HS makes the profit on the sale of the unit only. Unlike cell phone companies, there is no monthly charge to use your visor. Maybe they's be interested in discussing the alternative. I wouldn't.
BTW, the replacement unit I received (the very next day) has been working perfectly. I did take the extra steps of beaming most of my programs over and did empty the backup folder in the desktop program before syncing. I believe the latter is a key part of a successful lateral move or an upgrade.
