MP3 Transfer Woes
Has anyone had problems moving mp3s over onto a minijam? I have the 64 meg version (2 32 cards) and was able to load one card before some sort of a crash that lead to my need to reformat both cards and since I have only been able to get songs on one of the cards.
I'm using the USB cradle with a W2K laptop and either MJLoader or MiniJamBrowser. Neither one seems to be able to maintain a connection and leads to either the visor crashing, the pc app hanging or both. At this point, I'm wondering if the apps just can't handle the slow rate of file transfer or some other conflict. I only have about 1 meg of memory available on the visor itself, could that be a problem?
Any advice on how to solve this?
Thanks,
Dale
p.s. I'm mainly a mac user and the SoundsGood wasn't an option

soundsgood can not compete
64 mb minijam $199, speedloader (which is at least as fast if not faster then soundsgood its 4-5 times faster then reviewed depending on your system) $39, 2 extra 64mb mmc $198(or even less soon) = $436 not $680 for 192mb of mp3s in your shirtpocket or *free* case that comes with the minijam is still better then a 2lb klunker from creative labs. If you like the restricted format of soundgood thats you choice I think its to small(buttons)and the limited storage(64mb limit)makes soundsgood a poor choice.

After playing with the USB speedloder for a while now, I have found it is MUCH faster than what James said in his review... A must for any MiniJam owner.. Only "minus" is I wish the speedloader could also format the MMC as a FAT based file system.. it currently only does MJFS (mini jam file system) and not accessible as a "disk drive" from the OS. you have to use the "SpeedLoader" program, (identical to the MJLoader program) to transfer mp3's to the MMC card.

Speedloader rocks & MMC's
Got my SpeedLoader and another 64MB MMC card this week. Huge difference loading music. I have a Geode too and plan to use the MMC's in it as well once they get their MMC manager software running. It will inconvenient to have to reformat the cards each time I switch between devices. I wonder why Innogear went proprietary with their format. I suggest a software/firmware update to support fat and make Speedloader accessable from explorer.
I suspect Innogears choice has to do with music piracy, if you notice, there is no way to transfer an mp3 BACK from the mmc card...
Personally, if I wanted to pirate mp3's, I wouldn't use an MMC card to do it...

MJLoader/MusicMatch driver update
DTSteele,
The MJLoader/MJ driver for MusicMatch provided with the install CD isn't too reliable.. I had some problems with it too. Make sure you download the latest updates from InnoGear and MusicMatch.. assuming it's not a W2K issue, this should ease your pain.. Took me a while to figure out that MusicMatch wasn't playing with a full driver at first...
SoundsGood is better for some
The only advantage that the Minijam has is the expanded memory. Color skins don't help me since my Visor is greyscale. Even the expanded memory isn't that advantageous since Good says they'll do WMA which I think gives a smaller file size than MP3. I heard that Minijam can't do that (WMA or other audio formats)
What I haven't seen mentioned is that the Minijam has less battery life (two or three hours less than the SoundsGood) which is crucial since the whole reason of having the Visor is multiple uses.
The Minijam can not be used without the Visor. The SoundsGood can which frees up the Springboard slot and saves Visor batteries.
Hopefully one or both of them will do Palm app storage but neither do at this point which would be a real boon.
SoundsGood is a great product. For some $500 isn't too much for music but for me that's a lot for an MP3 player.
If you have two computers (one being a laptop) then it's more cumbersome carrying around and plugging in a USB Speedloader too rather than using the existing cradle.

I went with Soundsgood. Compact and fast download were the key factors. Somehow I received a great deal on it from Staples. Right after Christmas there was an instore coupon in the paper, plus the soundsgood rebate. It worked out to this: $269.00 - $100.00 (staples coupon) - $20.00 (rebate) = $149.00 + tax.

Killer quote. It stood out for me when watching the film, too -- only I think too many people missed it. A lot of people saw that movie, but I don't see a lot of cognizance out there on this fine distinction.
Hope everyone in the world gets to see it, & makes a connection.
