-- Visor Flip Cover (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=8807)

All I want, and have been wanting for quite some time is a flip cover for the Visor, like on the Palm III. I got excited when I saw the "flip-clip" from re-visor, but it now seems that they are out of business or something, thier web page has not been updated in like 4 months. Why cant someone just invent a simple flip cover that fits in the springboard slot? It could replace the plastic dummy module that the visor comes with. I feel confident saying that it would be Handsprings most popular module. Anyone hear anything about the possibility of a flip cover in the future?

I haven't heard about future possibilities of Flip Cover Springboards.
But until they debut, here's a link to a nifty homemade flip cover you can make yourself.
Might serve it's purpose until something better comes along. Thanks Steffan!

I agree! I would LOVE a flip-top cover for my BVDx, and had planned on buying a re-visor.

I don't think though that it should be anchored in the springboard slot. I don't want to have to take off my case each time I want to put in a module, and would usually want to carry mine with a module in place and the flip cover.

Currently, I'm using the EB slipper and am very satisfied. The only problem is that I have never been able to sync in the cradle, but have since gotten a cable.

I agree too!!!

I have a 3c with the flip cover. Thought I would hate it. It really grows on you.

I now have a Prism. The removable covers that come with visors just do not work for me. I find that I am using the Prism less than I used the 3c becase of this.

And, the homemade version will not work on a Prism. The Prism's cover does not attach to the back - front only :-(

Is it possible to find a company that could do this?

Who is "re-visor"?

Cheers,

Rick

Re-Visor was a company w/ a cool idea for a Visor flip cover and a nice website (http://www.re-visor.com -- still up) that dropped off the face of the earth.

Wink ****gasp**** breath in****

I just came up for air and feel horrible that i havent been here in soo long... First off, re-visor is still alive just going through a few executive changes and the site has suffered. At the same time I'm freshly out of the hospital after an emergency operation and long recovery, and as the webmaster not much can be done from a hospital bed with just a visor and a slow modem. So a thousand apologies. I have a ton of emails to get to for re-visor, of people wondering whats the !$*&@# is up. Well the scoop is that the name of the company is changing due to visor being a tradmark of HS, and we wanna stay on their good side ;') so expect an official announcement very soon... I have a TON of catching up to do but many things have continued to progress while the site was going stale. So expect a lot of changes this week. I just couldn't stand to think that you thought I fell off the earth (i would have too in your position). The problem with being a small start-up is that as the co-inventor, designer, evangelist, webmaster and president, is that if I get sick, no one finds out till I'm better.
so anyway the new company name is Tactilis. LLC
at tactilis.com. It should be up tonight in a very minimalist way, but UP. so concider yourself informed. ;') We're aiming to make sure those clips and lids are out under those christmas trees this year!

Talking Excellent

Excellent Sastien! Good to see you back. I hope that you are feeling much better now.

I've got a question for you: Will the flip covers work with the new Visor Prism? and if so..will you have a cover that will match the Cobalt Blue color of the prism?

Posted by sastian on 11-01-2000 03:09 PM:

Talking prisim

I have friends in Cali who are helping me develop some things and they had an early shell of the prisim (way before they were out) and said it worked great with the clip.. so im assuming the size change is only located on the back panel of the unit which is not someting we connect to, so the fit should be the same. Now bear in mind that I havent actually seen it myself but as soon as they are at the local best buy, i'll test and get pictures to put up.
Now the color is being matched as we speak and we'll see what the costs will be be to do their "blue-ish" plastic. But yes we're looking into matching them all including the platinum. Currently we've got clear and black clips and were working on the lids. keep watching the site and more questions will be answered.

Glad to see you are back, hope you are doing well! I'm looking forward to being able to order my flip cover.

Thought you might like to see this. This is just to show that our design fits the Prism. We are currently looking into color-matching the plastics as well.
note:
this is only the clip. we are finalizing the design on the lids right now. they should match any colors we develop the clip in.

Post

sastian...

The design looks very promising. Can the springboard slot still be used with the clip? Are you on schedule to have the flip covers available before the end of the year?

TIA,
David

Wink

the beauty of this product is its simplicty. not only can you use the springboard slot but most oversized modules work with it as well. It also doesn't interfere with the cradle for syncing. and works with older palm III form factor lids. Ive been using a beta peice for about a month and tried going a week with out it.. drove me nuts. ;') It was a different unit without it. The covers will be tight but the clips will be availableand shipping this month. We're looking a doing a rebate deal of some sort though for the covers.

Posted by raptor on 11-13-2000 12:31 AM:

I'm sure you really don't NEED to hear this, but I know I'll be ordering one as soon as you make them available.

While I'm one of the few who really doesn't mind the snap-lid for the Visor (I use a zip-case that uses it to secure the unit instead of velcro), something like this is just too cool and useful to pass up, especially if it still retains springboard capability.

I know I'll be advertising this to all my Visor-owning friends, hehe. Now you've got me all impatient for this.

First of all sastian, I have to say thank you. If there is anything that I really miss from my IIIx, it is the flip cover. It looks like you have finally come up with the solution for a real flip cover for the visor.

Now I have two questions for you:
1.) have you had a chance to see if it is possible to use one of the your flip covers and the visor phone module?

2.) how is it that the flip clip is attached to the visor, I ask this because I carry my visor in my pants pocket and I want to make sure that it will stay attached when I pull it out of my pocket.

Thanks for making this great product and I hope that I get a chance to use it soon.

Joey

Yes we will be offering a version that will work with the phone module. we have found that there needs to be a slight modification which will be machined to the existing part. therefore the cost will be slightly more, but it will be available. In the future I suspect this to become a pemanent change to our mold.

Well, as my wife points out, "that depends on how tight your jeans are" ;') In a very tight pocket you can push the lid and clip off, but I've carried mine around in my jeans pocket for over a month without concern. I would say the clip comes off as easily as a module does, but it definitely stays in place.

First of all, let me join everyone else in welcoming you back from the hospital -- glad you're back on your feet! Second, I was wondering if you planned to offer *real* clear lids that you can actually read the screen through. It would be nice to be able to read alarm text or agenda screens without having to even flip up the lid.

Posted by sastian on 11-16-2000 08:10 AM:

That is the idea!

Thats definatly part of the design for OUR lids.
We will be offering a palm III replica that has that EDM finish until those are complete. So hang in there.
