-- Best Buy exchange policy? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=12013)
I was wanting to know if anyone has ever exchanged (upgraded) their Visor Deluxe for a Platinum using their service plan. Althogh technically my VDX is functioning OK, I was just curious if it can be done.?

I upgraded my visor deluxe to a palm IIIc at best buy and they took it, but you have to claim the one you have is broken. It's no problem as long as you're not overly ethical.
I got the impression they expect you to use the program for upgrades as well as actual replacement of broken ones. At least when I bought my original Platinum, one of the things they said to get me to buy the 3-year plan was that "if you just think the screen is scratched" or similar things, you can get it replaced. As for trading up, they don't seem to have *any* problem with that; I just upgraded to a Prism, and they were *eager* to do it. Naturally enough, I suppose, because they just send it back to HS. Anyway, at least at my local store, they seem to be selling it as a tacit trade-in/upgrade program. FWIW.

What, exactly, is the deal with the 3-year warranties? What kind of damages does it include? How much does it cost?
It sounds like a good deal...especially if they let you 'upgrade' like that. One of the FEW times it seems worthwhile to get the extended service package.

Best Buy
Well, I haven't pushed it very far yet, and I'm just going on my experience upgrading from Platinum to Prism. I mentioned that it was within the 30-day return period, and the girl remembered I'd bought the 3-year plan and said it didn't matter, I'd be able to do it anyway with that plan. You just pay the difference in price, and from what they told me, that's good for the full 3 years. Seemed worth it to me because of the chance of dropping the thing or scratching the screen, but the upgrade bit sold me on it. It's *not* technically an upgrade program, but they did go out of their way to explain how I could do that, so I can't imagine they're unaware of or against it. Right now, my LED has conked out (after about 2 days!), but it recharges and works just fine, so I'll hold onto it for now. If HS comes out with something really great, like flash ROM or whatever, I'll swap. I feel much more secure with this plan, although I tend to agree with you most times that extended warranties aren't worth it. To answer your question about how much damage is required, they told me "anything" and used the scratches on the screen as an example. Now usually that would be normal wear and tear, not something you can get a replacement for I would think, so it's indicative of their attitude. Another clerk said as long as the case isn't damaged, anything goes. Oh, and my 3-year plan transferred to the new product, too.
Hope that helps.

My visor deluxe screen cracked in my pocket. I took it back to Best Buy and they took it back with not a problem and were happy to let me pay the difference to upgrade to the Platinum. They also refunded the prorated amount of the three year policy and I purchased a new 3 yrs on the new visor.
