-- POLL: UPGRADE TO COLOR VISOR? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=8165)
Just a curious VISOR DX user who wants to know if people
would purchase the Visor PRISM (color) that James recently wrote about.
$449.00 seems like a lot of money but......
Are you interested and if so why?

I use a Visor DX
Therefore I am cool!
I think I'll wait a while... at the present time I have no need nor desire for a color unit (not to mention the $$$). Beside's it it really is a IIIc clone, you can keep it.
Now, the Platinum might just be a different story!

God bless America, my home sweet home...
I will definately purchase one. I have been looking for a color Palm OS with the expandibility of the Visor Deluxe.
I want one now!!
Marc
will be avail in retail stores on Oct 19???
Maybe...
It depends on what the screen looks like. The only "envy" I have towards the PPC's is the screen. I don't need color just for the sake of it. (want, yes need, no) The screen will have to compare to a PPC. (Well, at least better than the Palm IIIc) That said, I dont think I will be buying another PDA until Ive got at least a year out of what I have now. (Unless something happens to my current Visor and NOT on purpose!
)

I'm definitely there. I just hope that Handspring doesn't have the growing pains, delivering the new product line, that they had with the Visor.
I use Liberty all the time to pass the time away while train ridin' to and from work. I would love to see it support gbc's now!
It will depend ...
Though I'd love to have color just because it's cool, that's hardly justification for shelling out that kind of $$$. However, the additional contrast of a true black on white display would be very helpful for improving useability in lower light situations.
I guess It will depend greatly on the quality of the display (and it's backlight). If it's good enough (the IIIc isn't) then I'd gladly pay the premium for the increased readability. In fact I'd be willing to pay more for a really good black and white display than I would for a typical color PDA screen.

I'm waiting for a review first....
I think the unit is too expensive to justify...
But you never know...

Do files get embarrassed when they get unzipped?
Probably I will
I guess I will. However I would much more appreciate an upgrade of the Handspring module so it could handle large memory sizes. I also think if TRG gets off its behind and introduces a 16-bit color TRGPro, it would make significant inroads with doctors. Talking to my wife (a doctor) she loves the Palms simplicity compared with the PocketPC. But color is big for her because it makes a much more readable display. Once she starts using the Palm I know she will want lots of space for reference materials. I think she would really be interested in the new 1G CF microdrive from IBM so she could store tons of reference stuff.
Probably won't get the color visor .. granted, it would be very cool to show off and the added visibility would be a nice touch, but not for the price .. I think I'll wait for the Palm OS 4 and see what goodies it brings..
Joe
I execpt that I will upgrade durring or before the next school year. The prisim unless i can catch one falling from the sky (my main method of obtaining thoes cool Pocket PC) is compleatly out of the picture. now as you all know i cant afford to go repalceing accossorys every time somthing new comes out if the platunim has the same kind of docking cradle as the curent visors and the design/new features are cool enought then maby I'll get it but if it isn't then I won't
but. with all luck the new visors will drive the price of the Visor delux down enought for me to be able to aford it *fingers crossed*

The advantages of a color unit does not justify the added cost of the unit as well as the cost of the acessories, especially if it looks like the plam 3c, but I think I still want one anyway. Hopefully they will do a good job making the unit.

I'll need to see it first. I'm not wild about the Palm IIIc, but I'd like to see how the increased color depth affects the image quality. The weight and physical dimensions are other factors I need to sample for myself (specs on paper aren't good enough). And will it be passive or active matrix?
Reservations aside, I'm inclined to get the Prism because:
Like everybody else, I'll have to see the screen resolution with my own eyes before I can make my assesment.
Having said that, there are a couple of programs I've wanted to write for the Visor that were thwarted by the limitations of the screen (what programs? a 3-d rotating starmap, and a utility that allowed playing cardboard and paper wargames)

Colour isn't that important to me. definately won't be getting the prism.
Like MarkEagle, the Platinum sounds interesting (especially if it has a metal case) but i don't see myself buying it either right now. I'll wait to see Palm's Vx rebutal (sp?) and Sony's colour Clie before deciding (as i said, colour isn't important but they have cool metal cases and the size is UNBELIEVABLE!)

color visor
I don't want or need one, but the agenda computing linux pda looks fascinating to me.
Can't Justify Cost
I can't justify the price hike just for color, especially if the color isn't better than the PalmIIIc. I just can't afford that much for a handheld.

Yes with requirements
Well,
I jumped ship, late last year for a variety of reasons and went back to Palm Vx with Omnisky. Now that there will be a color unit and an Minstrel modem at about the same time....I much rather be surfing the net in color.
However, if it the screen is not a great deal of enhancement over the IIIc then I'll wait for a Palm Vx in color.
The ideal would be an iPaq screen with the Handspring form and Springboards. Supposedly, the Sony Clie color version now in Japan has the same type of screen as the iPaq so why not a Visor with slightly less colors?
I'd bet that before Handspring gets to market with a new color screen physically available that Palm will release (press) their own version...it's been rumored for some time.

Not enough...
Maybe if the screen was bigger, or it had flashram/more ram... But just color doesn't justify that price hike. I would rather spend that extra money on springboard modules. I haven't purchased one yet, I'm just using my friends $150 Visor, and already see the memory constraints. I think I will invest in the Platinum this christmas though. Another reason would be the rechargable options, that always seems to bug me with the charge length and other factors, I'd rather just keep the aaa's in my bag than keep track of charging.
I won't be getting the color visor. I find that color really isn't necessary for the things I use my Visor for. There is also the high cost, plus the fact that I only got my blue VDx two months ago.
I'm still a loyal Handspring customer -- the color Visor just isn't what I need, yet.
