Unhappy Good news and bad news

Good news:

My Visor Pro has survived its nearly 2+ year life without the dreaded battery-dying or fading issue. No real major operation-crippling problems at all.

Bad news:

I'm gonna have it replaced soon.

I'm currently looking into the Treo 600. I'm researching on it, but I need a more-PDA-than-phone type.

I wish they'd retain the graffiti pad (or made a soft version). I was so happy with my Pro - nobody I know was able to use it effectively. Meaning: Less chance of idiots spoiling it.

Aside from Treo 600.. what else should i consider? And does the Treo 600 retreive email in say, a remote place with only a cellphone signal?

Any ideas? Anyone still around here?

Personally, I want a Palm Zire 71. Of course I'm still using my Visor Deluxe (Ice) too. I don't have the $300 to spare to get the new handheld, and I find of late I'm only using it for the datebook and phonebook functions, so maybe the upgrade isn't what I need.

Re: Good news and bad news

Just found out the Treo 600 doesn't have a hi-res screen. There's then no point for me to upgrade to one, since I originally thought it had hi-res to solve the stupid scrolling in QuickSheet, which I use most of the time.

Stupid Handspring. Giving some good features while missing out several must-have important features is always so inherent in all Handspring designs.

So that leaves other options. I need a PDA that can also act like a phone, and upgradable/ expandable. Anyone has a good suggestion?

The Sonys-Ericssons have really tinny buttons that just doesn't work for me.

I had no desire to get a "combo" device to replace my Prism, I am not interested in a cellphone pda, I went with the Palm Zire 71 and I love it.. it was the best fit to my old Visor I could find and to boot it was cheaper that what I had paid for the Prism..

Get the Zire 71 and a nice (separate) cellphone, .. you'll like the Zire.. and you won't get shafted with costs of a combo device..

Since I have had both a cellphone and phone all this time, and they both needed replacement so I thought.. why not?

The replacement has got to have a big screen (not the puny ones on the cellphones) and integrated with a phone. The reason is that when I carry both my phone and my PDA it gets really tiring after a while.

I find it is easier to drop them into my pocket, that way i wouldnt forget them.. but with both in my pockets i would always remove them whenever im in a sitting position (car, anyplace with a chair) because they are uncomfortable and bulky.

I also would like to receive email or fax on the fly. Or post text messaging straight into the memopad (if that is possible).

Oh... I do have a problem with my current visor, that is whenever I need to use the IR, i have to reset it before it could receive, it makes faxing memos really slow. I don't know why it's like that, I hope the new Palms don't have this problem, but it's better to just get rid of the IR/reset fiddling by removing the need to pass data to and fro from phones using IR and go straight into the phone itself. And i use Excel / QuickSheet ALOT.

My obvoius choice is now a PDA/phone.

Preferably more PDA than phone. Without a keypad. And hi-res. No such things exist. The Treo is just sooo close.

Seems you are pretty set on a combo, I hate to say it but sounds like the Treo 600 is probably the closest thing to what you are looking for..

However, if you are open to suggestions...

The next best thing I can think of is a Sony UX-50 type of device.. its not a cellphone but it does have bluetooth, so no fiddling with IR or cables, you do however need a bluetooth capable cellphone.. The UX-50 also has WiFi. It would be better suited to the types of actives you seem to want a wireless device for.

good luck.. let us know what you end up with.
