-- Should I? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=21626)

Question Should I?

My Visor suddenly got hard to turn on. You really have to press the power button hard for it to turn on or off. I mean, it still works, its just hard.

Should I send it in for repair? Can I live without if for as long as it will take? I was reconditioned and is still under warranty.

What do you think?

Arrow pay the $25

If your Visor is very important to you and you cannot wait for a repair, take the $25 "Premium Service" and get a replacement within 24 hours or so. Just my opinion.

From where did you get it? Just thinking 'bout rather or not they would exchange it?

button pad is $15 http://www.gethightech.com/item.html?PRID=893806

Unhappy Still lost!

Good thoughts you guys. A friend picked it up for me at Fry's reconditioned.

When I took the Visor out of the case last night, I noticed as crack in the case from the power button go the seam on the side. I wonder if that is misaligning the power button? I am planning on replacing the face with one from http://www.surplus.com.hk after the warranty expires. Now I'm left with the dilemma of whether I replace it now and fix the problem or pay the money to get it replaced under the warranty repair. If the new face plate doesn't fix it, then I'm honked because I voided the warranty opening the Visor up. If it does fix it, then I spend no more money that I was planning to and don't lose it for a few days getting it fixed.

Humph.

IF you got the Fry's "instant exchange" warranty, you're in there. Theywill swap it out on the spot.

They may give you some guff if they think it has been abused.

Personal experience: they (Fry's) don't know squat about whether or not the unit has been opened and "tinkered" with.

I imagine Handspring knows when their warranty gets voided but Fry's does not. If you got the "instant exchange" and they are out, you will probably get a Neo.

Oh, make me wish! I'm going to chase this one to ground! Thanks.

I plan on breaking mine as soon as they run out of VDX units and getting a Neo.

I have already got my $ worth out of the 2 year performance instant exchange from Fry's and I plan on getting more.

Well, that's one way to get an upgrade I suppose.

Here's the lowdown on what's happened in case anyone wants to know.

My buddy bought this Visor for me Nov 23rd (with no Fry's instant replacement warranty) so the warranty expires TODAY. When I called Handspring they said it already showed out of warranty but it shouldn't and they'll cover it any way.

So, a box is on it's way to me so I can send my Visor in for repair.

On top of that, my friend who bought if for me also got one for his wife at the same time. Since she, as he said, "thinks about it ever 2.8 weeks" he's going to loan me her's while mine is getting fixed!

It all works out great!

BTW, http://www.surplus.com.hk is no longer making the replacement faceplate I wanted. All of the ones they have on their website are a little to feminine for me so I won't be getting one any time soon.

There is a fella who makes an entire case out of machined aluminum (http://www.dave.com)! It costs $100 but sure looks cool. Don't think I'll be getting it though.

epilog

I mailed my broken Deluxe via Priority Mail on Tuesday. I received it back by Friday. Great turn around by Handspring. I just hope the faceplate doesn't crack again (which I suspect it will).

That's good news. I'm happy to hear that Handspring has good service.

I was bored out of my skull weekend before last. I decided a trip to Fry's would be the cure. I envoked my instant exchange warranty, seems I had a pesky little issue w/ my beam receive. Funny, they never check that kind of stuff. Anyway, they gave me a new unit this time, not another refurb. Same 2 year warranty (from my original purchase date, of course) and all.

I have since then fashioned me a screen protector out of an overhead projector transparancy sheet.

Just thought I would share.
