-- PDA Panache or the Handspring 5-pack Stylii? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=3584)

Hey all--

I'm sure this topic has been discussed before, if so, please point me to the discussion.

Anyway, I was considering getting a new stylus for my Visor to replace the stock one. What would you people recommend? the 5-pack or the PDA Panache? (I've narrowed it down to those two.) Bear in mind, I will be getting a Rhodiana case soon.

Thanks!

A lot depends on your personal preference and style.

I tried both and settled on the 5-Pack because I liked that it was the same style as the original and is a perfect fit in the case.

I prefer the stylus tip of the PDA Panache but just didn't like the way it sticks out of the top of the Visor. Other folks don't seem to mind it though. If PDA P comes out with a new design (don't know that and NOT trying to start a rumor) I'd probably try it.

Just remember that the five pack comes in 5 different colors. I'm kinda wishing now that I had gotten something other than the 5 pack. It's a great stylus, but I'm stuck with colors I don't want. http://discussion.visorcentral.com/...TML/000251.html

I got my Panche in only a couple of days but the lid won't screw off! I don't want to take a pair of pliers to it but I might have to.

After getting my Visor, I ordered the PD Panache stylus. The tip is nice, but it sticks way out of the silo--and it is ridiculously difficult to get in and out. So I ordered the Handspring 5 pack. These are FAR superior in my opinion. They incorporate BOTH a screwdriver and a reset tool, the have the nice little Visor protrusion to make it easy to get the thing in and out, and the quality is superb. I'll never use the Panache tool again. David

I like the Handspring 5-pack. The black and ice will go with any visor, I gave the green to a friend, and I kind of like the look of the orange in my blue visor so I use it sometimes...

Damn, I seem to have misplaced it.

just to retort, i have the pda panache (a chrome one) and absolutely love it. the fact that it sticks out does not bother me and I think it makes it easier to get to then the stock one. i guess that depends on you.

just so you know the pda panache is much heavier then the stock one, that surprises a lot of people when i let them hold it. I personally love mine. I'm thinking about buying a second one just to have a backup!

One of JonathanL's original points was that he will be using a Rhodiana case. Will he have trouble getting the stylus from the five-pack or the Panache out of the Rhodiana case?

The orange also looks spiffy in a Green visor.

I bought the Visor 5 pack when I bought my GVD a few weeks ago. The 5 pack styli are leaps better than the plastic one that comes with the Visor. I also loved the mix and match aspect...I made my own color combinations by mixing the end cap with the stylus point. So I had a Green Visor with a Blue and Orange Stylus!
Gotta say, though...the PDAPanache is a thing of beauty to write with. I use WriteRights, and had badly scratched one of them with the Visor stylus, but the Panache has yet to mar my screen, after heavy usage. Not only that, but it feel better, as well. I wouldn't trade the Panache for anything, now.

Wink

Hi people!
I got my IVD 2 weeks ago and I was instantly impressed, except for the stylus. Ieet sucks! As the matter of fact, for a piece of $250 equipment, it refines the word 'sucks'. Anyway, I read a lot of good stuff about the PDA Panache stylus so I ordered 2 chrome ones (that tells you how much I will hate picking up the stock stylus ever again). With normal shipping, it arrived in 4 days.
It's incredible how much difference the extra weight makes. The improvement in the operation of my Visor was instantly noticeable. Like some of you, I don't like the fact that the top of the stylus sticks out. I think the purpose was to make the stylus more accessible and secondly, to accomodate the hard cover when its rides on the back of the unit. I doesn't realy bother me that much because with the upcoming SB modules, I'm sure that something is going to stick out of the case.

Talking new style

i was just looking at the pda panache website and they had two versions, one for the visor delux and one for the prism. they said that if VD users didn't want the the top sticking out they should get the prism version. has anyone tried this yet?

here is their quote:

"PDA Panache custom stylus upgrade just for HandSpring
Visor Prism models. Same great stylus as our VISB model
but designed with the nail head to fit flush with top of case when in
your Prism's stylus holder. Also for those original
Visor/Deluxe/Platinum users who prefer not to use the stock
snap-on plastic screen cover and do not want the easier
extraction from the stylus slot that a stand-off top offers.

thanks,
robert

I absolutely love my PDA Panache. I'm actually glad it sticks out of the top, much easier to grab I think. But not everyone is as much of a klutz as I am.

I know it was not one of the original options but I highly suggest trying the Pentopia Chameleon Visor - T11FV. It fits the silo with only the little rubber tip (opposite of the stylus tip) sticking out perhaps a millimeter. It has a pen and a metal reset pin. I have found it great in comparison to the 5 pack styli.

well, I've not used a Panache, but I'm rather happy with the five-pack ... since I got it for free

I don't have either one. But I leave my stock stylus sticking out a little bit at all times to help me get at my stylus. So, if it were me, I'd go with the PDA Panache.

Now that I'm thinking of buying a PDA Panache. Does anyone have a picture of their Visor using the Panache so we can see how far it sticks out and how it looks?

I got curious and went searching. The Gadgeteer has a picture of the Panache in a Visor within their review, HERE.
It's close to the bottom.

My vote is for the Pentopia Chameleon Visor stylus. It's tip is exactly like the Panache's, but it is nicer b/c it doesn't stick out at all. Plus, it is light and won't roll off the table. I highly recommend it.
