PCWorld has an interesting overview of HandSpring's position in the market these days, as well as the changes they've made since introducing the Visor

HandSpring shouldn't be expanding in to Europe just yet. The success of the company lies with its SpringBoard modules and having a retail presence. When you get right down to it, SpringBoards are the only big reason to buy a Visor. Palm has a huge edge over HandSpring in marketing and distribution. Most people have never heard of HandSpring. Most people are familiar with the Palm name.

Can Handspring Handle Success...?

Based on past experience.... NO..!!!
The things is, they've got to or the backing for our new toy will wither up and die.

I think that it is too early to tell. Yes, they have had some major and minor growing pains, but history has shown that this industry (or really the consumers of tech goods) will tolerate some growing pains if a product is worth using (or perceived to be).

For now we just need to wait and watch what happens for the remainder of the year.

I coudln't imagine things getting any worse than they were at Handspring. I can only see things getting better for them. We'll just have to wait and see.

Have you guys seen that UPS commercial where a small company has just opened its web site to take orders. They are waiting, hoping for that first order and when it occurs they sigh in relief and begin to believe in what they are doing. They cheer as the orders add up into the hundreds, and then thousands. Suddenly the mood begins to change as the orders spiral up and up as the workers realize they now must produce/bill/deliver/provide customer service for, ALL of these orders.

Any guesses as to what this commercial always reminds me of? Yap, our good friends at Handspring.
