-- Using IR adapter to talk to Nokia 6190 via Nokia datacord? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=9634)

What do you y'all think of this arrangement, will it work?

Using an IR to Serial port adapter, gender bender, nokia DAU-9p datacord and nokia6190 phone.

here's the url to the ir adapter:

I am thinking I could hook the Ir adapter to the Nokia datacord using a genderbender (since they both have female connectors), then use my visor prism's IR port to talk to the IR receiver now hooked to the nokia datacord and from there talk to the nokia 6190 for dialing up to an isp....or am I missing some key concept/element?

Here's how it all hooks together in my mind:

nokia6190<-->datacord<-->ir_receiver<-->(ir)<-->visorprism ir port(with irlink software installed)

Exclamation check for drivers

Check that IR cable again. It may need Windows drivers, and may not work just plugged into the datacord/nokia.

It may be more cost effective to get a new phone that will let you beam IR to IR depending how much the data cord and IR adapter costs. Which springboard modem are you using?... or are you on Sprint?

i don't believe the 6190 (at least in north america) have a built-in modem. somewhere in your setup, you need a modem.

re the 6190

re whether the nokia 6190 has a modem or not, it must since I use it hooked up to my win98 laptop's com1 serial port and not to the modem which is a pc card modem.
