Talking

The Bridge is an accessory that allows the use of a HotSync cradle, while the PDA is still in a protective case. Without the Bridge, you would have to either use a USB cable, or remove the PDA from the case to HotSync.

The Bridge is made by http://www.midwestpcbdesigns.com.

Midwest makes the Bridge for the Palm III series and the Palm V series. They told me the Visor presents some design and electrical challenges that the Palms do not.

I think if enough people request a Visor version of the Bridge, they might make it. Send emails to: [email protected]
and
[email protected]

I have also emailed Handspring about this.

me want.

What's so hard electircly? All you have to do is extend the pins, so create the plastic dodad, and than just add an inch of cable in their and it works. Nothing special. oh well

Midwest details electrical barriers

Here is what Don Damiani: Vice President, Midwest PCB Designs said in an email response to my inquiry on The Bridge regarding the electrical barriers of working with the Visor:

"The mechanical differences aside, there are some electrical issues. The Palm has 4 dedicated transmission lines to the cradle connector. The Visor has 2.

If the Palm accessory that you want to mate with the Visor uses 4 transmission lines, it won't work."

As I said in my original posting, I think if Midwest gets enough requests, they might make one for us Visor owners.

I too think the Platinum is the best model, and that's what I bought.

Ummm, am I missing something here. He says that the electrical issue has to due with the fact that the Visor has 2 transmission lines instead of the 4 used in Palms. Well, since only Visors would be sysnced in Visor cradles where is the electrical issue? It sounds like he is talking about something like the V-chip that they make for the Palm V.

i think the confusion was in the original wording. It sounds like you want a 'Bridge' that will allow you to sync your visor while still in your carrying case. He is responding to a request for a 'Bridge' that will allow you to use Palm add-ons (like the PalmPix) on your Visor.

They are talking about building a Bridge device that would translate the Visor's serial port into a Palm serial port, both phyiscally and electrially. That way one could use the Bridge to connect up to Palm devices, such as the Kodak PalmPix cammera, with your Visor.
