Has anyone had trouble receiving beams with their Prism? I just got a new one and it seems to not want to receive beams. It looks like it times out after a while. Pretty weird.

Hold it away from whatever you are beaming to/from. I mean like 2-4 feet. It will work. Trust me.

Could be bad IR hardware, had it in one of my Prisms and had to return it.

Had the same problem with mine... I was too close to the other handheld. soon as we stepped apart, it worked great

Flouresent lights can affect IR. Also if you are placing the two units on a flat table with a reflective surface that can also cause problems.

Cool Beamining Clearly!

Yea, had the same trouble. Even returned the first unit I purchased; it's the distance. This is actually a GOOD thing though I think. Now I can beam and receive across a table, etc., without having to hold the units directly together. Ever since I separated the units a foot or two, etc., haven't had any trouble!!

I've had the same problem - I can't wait to see if this is the fix.

Question Visor Prism IR Beaming

My brother and I have been trying to get my Visor Deluxe and His Visor Prism to Beam to each other. So far, no workee.
We've tried the distance thing already and hard resetted the Prism. No go. Any new ideas? Besides possible bad IR hardware that is...

I have had the same problem trying to beam to a Visor Deluxe. Any ideas?

Talking

Goto your preferences and turn your Beam Receive to On. Yuo can also turn your Auto-off up.

Maybe take the Prism and the Deluxe to a local provider/dealer (Circuit City, Best Buy, etc.) Try beaming from the Prism to one of their Prisms and then to one of their Deluxe; then try your Deluxe to their Prism and their Deluxe; that way you can find out if it is a communication problem or a unit problem. If the sales people give you any trouble about it (should the display not be available) just relay that you are interested in purchasing one (for a friend; relative; etc) "because you have to be sure they are compatible units." Not to be false with the sales people, but THEY SHOULD be willing to work with you and half the time, they don't even know what you are talking about when you get in there with a problem -- or so has been my problem...I usually spend 30 minutes to "educate" them for a 45 second trouble check; but IT DOES solve the problem, all due respect to the stores/clerks. After all, you have to know if the unit is bad before investing the loss of the PDA's convenience to send it in to Handspring.

I have had my prism for about 3 weeks now. I have had 2 occurrences where I was unable to initiate or receive an IR transfer. In both instances I was able to get the transfer to work after a soft reset. The only cause I can give is that in both cases I had been experimenting with afterburner.

I've had my Prism about three weeks also, and while getting the bugs out (WeSync, an old version of Daylight Savings Hack, etc.) I was having occasional crashes while it was hotsyncing. I discovered that the Prism will reset its preferences to "beam receive off " when it crashes while hotsyncing. Weird.

Unhappy

Any which way, it doesn't seem like the Prism's beaming works well. I haven't heard any really positive comments yet. I like the beaming function and it is disturbing that there are so many troubles. It should be very straightforward.

KevinKlee:

In reply, the Prism is absolutely wonderful. Color screen which is SO MUCH better on the eyes. Way additional megs, and the beaming is not a problem. As mentioned earlier, it actually gives you more space and more distance. Understanding the distancing idea -- I can now beam across a table and/or within a meeting of 6 people without having to "line and ajoin" our Visors like peas in a pod. Basically, aim them (IR) at each other within 2 ft. and "ta-da" beam confirmed. Gotta see the ALL the wonderful good, not just the few confused and being worked out bad.

Actually, since I solved the crash-while-hotsyncing problems, beaming has worked flawlessly. It was frustrating while it was happening, but I can't blame the Prism. For all I know, any Palm OS device will reset to "beam receive off" if it crashes while syncing.
