-- Best way to print from VDx??? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=11614)
I'm trying to figure out the best (economical) way to print directly from the IR port of my VDx. Got the soft, Printboy, now trying to find hardware. I've only found about 4 printers with IR ports, but I would like to find some solution to use my exhisting printer. Anyone know if there is a IR adapter to plug into the printer parallel port? Or am I stuck buying a new printer with the IR port? Any good print quality printers w/IR for under 200.00
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

use a cable
If your printer has a serial plug, you should be able to connect with a cable directly; if it only has a parallel port, check Stevens Creek Software (they make the PalmPrint app, and also explain which kind of cable do you need).

No Cable For the Visor
I have researched this a bit, and have not found anyone who is making a cable that will let you print directly from a Visor.
I checked out the Stevens Creek cable, it is not compatible. No Palm cable is. The Visor's serial port is physically and electronically different from Palm devices.
Not 100% sure, but I could have sworn I read somewhere about an adapter that could create an IR port on a printer.
There is one adapter made by Actisys that I ordered and tried. I had no success with it after trying it with several different printers and computer combinations. I emailed them a few times about it and their solutions never worked. Beware if you do decide to order from them, because when I returned the item which cost over $100 it took them 3 months to refund the money after several emails and they only refunded 75%.
Take my advise and buy yourself a good portable IR printer like the HP deskjet 310 or the Cannon bubble jet. It costs more but works flawlessly.
