-- Prism or Platinum-which should I buy? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=23075)
Prism or Platinum-which should I buy?
I currently own a Palm IIIx, and mainly because of what I perceive as better backup choices, want to move to a Platinum or Prism.
Question 1: Why would I choose a Memplug (I currently own 4 64MB and 1 8MB SmartMedia cards) over the Handspring 8MB Backup Module. I positively want a solution that backs up not only data, but also native AND third party applications.
Question 2: Which of these 2 Handsprings would suit my eyesight better? I read books on my PDA, and wear glasses. I have heard of the pixellation problems of the Prism. I also hear that because of its color, it is much easier to read indoors than a mono screen. Is the Platinum more readable than my IIIx? I use my PDA outdoors only about 15-20% of the time.
Any other observations would be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I own a platinum. Price kept me from buying a prism.
Question 1: Since you own Smart media cards, i would buy a Memplug. There is software that can backup your pda.
Question 2: I read on my platinum every day and have no problems reading. I think that the mono screen helps.
other observation...
If you don't care about case color, buy a neo. The platinum case is painted and with use the paint will wear away.
You will notice a great speed difference between your palm IIIx and a visor!
prism. get the memplug and use your existing cards. If you turn the brightness way down on the prism, it's pretty easy to read.
Prism all the way!!!
I have been through three visors...my first the solo, then the edge and now the prism. The solo was cool but not enough memory, I bought a 8 MB flash module just because of the memory issue. The edge was cool I got it for my college graduation and I even got the eyemodule 2 for it. I did not like the sled expansion slot and I couldn't get the most out of my eyemodule 2 because of the absence of color hardware. Now I have a prism which I got for my birthday in April. I don't feel the limitations that I did before. I can use my eyemodule 2 to it's full potential, take color mini pictures and color movies. Also the readability of the screen is okay but is hard to read in direct sunlight. Pick a shady spot and you will be okay :-) I love my prism!!! It is so cool to see things in full color. Avantgo is a treat like that. Games are awesome. Color does make a difference.
Cheers
Pick up the Platinum/Neo... and an Active Armor case. A great solution with serious protection.

consider batteries too
one overlooked function that platinum has over prism is the replaceable battery. if your purchasing decision is something you want to live with for a long time, consider the platinum. the reason being that lithium-ion batteries will, over time, lose its ability to hold its charge due to the nature of rechargeable batteries.
both platinum and prism are memory upgradeable. if you trust someone to replace the memory chip (there are services available online).
