seiko made a device called the smart pad === cross pad , but for palm devices? It sends the info through IR Does anyone know if this works with a visor deluxe?

Is this what your looking for? We concluded that it will not work with the Visor.

Flip Hack

If someone can't wait for the seamless version, they can always install Flip Hack.

Flip Hack allows the user to flip the Visor's square screen 90 deg to the left or right (or a full 180 deg). I use FlipHack version 1.0 written by Douglas I. Anderson

Thus the Visor can be placed with the IR port directly facing the IR transmitter and use FlipHack to rotate the screen image 90 deg to the left.

Images drawn on the pad should now be immediately viewable on the Visor - in the same direction as they've been drawn.

[Please keep in mind that I haven't tried this out. Not all Hack programs are compatible with all applications.]

Wait a minute. Strike that last comment. When I use my stowaway... my Visor is sitting up at an angle. The pad wouldn't work as designed.

Hmmmmmm, I'd like to see the IR transmiter clip onto the Visor (and still of course receive signals from the pen). I wonder how difficult this would be to engineer?

Seiko is coming out with a Handspring Version but I don't know the timing. Just read that in a review that was totally positive about the SmartPad

Imagine writing with an ink pen on an ordinary pad of paper -- and having it instantly appear as you've written it in your Palm OS computer!

The pen, which has a AAAA battery inside, transmits whatever you write through the paper to a digitizing base under the pad of paper. The signal is sent through the binder's case to the infrared port on the left side, beaming directly into your infrared port on your Palm.

It doesn't matter if you write words, diagrams, or pictures -- the Palm will capture it exactly as you write it. from there, you can email it as a .GIF file or print it out.

Handspring owners will have to turn their units sideways to access the beam properly; Seiko says a Handspring-supported unit is in the works.

Installation is via a CD with all the drivers. It works right out of the box without any problems. It is definitely a "show piece" which impresses everyone who sees it in action.

On the opposite end of the ink pen is a cool "pop-out" stylus tip for your screen. It's much more pleasurable and comfortable to use than the traditional stylus.

Does the PDA have to be turned on the whole time you are writing?

If so, it sounds like a hassle to turn it on, then start writing. You have to look at the PDA each time you think about writing.

It would be better if it saved everything until the end and then transmitted it all at once. Then it wouldn't matter much how you had to turn the visor.

Smartpad does work....I have one!!!!!!

The smartpad -which came from ecrio- works fine with my visor deluxe. Yes, it must be turned at an angle or sideways to work or "e-link" properly but its a neat gadget. Personally after reading the above links I will have to go retrieve flip hack. In addition since the smartpad comes with velcro -which i did not want on my modules, I threaded my hard cover through the two vertical slits at the mounting area and it's secured very nicely. Smartpad uses ist own memo "e-memo", datebook, addressbook and to-do lists that are all called e-whatever, and it uploads to the computer which is a real kick that I will probably use soon. Right now it's just a great journal and note taker -it time and date stamps everything by default- and is overall a top hardware item that -with some tweeking and the addition of a modem (wireless or leashed)- will really be fantastic!!!!!!
