-- Anybody that uses their Visor in High School? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=1126)
Im a junior in HS and use my BVDX to do almost everything. It's almost to the point where I dont use pen and paper any more. I take notes, keep track of all my work and GPA etc (Four.Zero) and play some pool or Kyle's Quest during the small amount of free time I have. My advice to any high schoolers out there who cant keep track of work, get a VDX with a replacement stylus and a pack of WriteRights. Believe me, your Visor WILL take a beating. However, I am so confident of the durability of the Visor that I let everyone play games and mess around on it (I once dropped it down a set of non carpeted school stairs, and it didn't even have a scratch, it was only in the leather case too!).
Well i had a scare today after dropping my Visor from waist high without a cover. Retrieved it without a scratch
Whew! Glad it's durable...
Heh...I just got an email from someone last night (sounded like a middle schooler or something) who wanted me to give them my reg code to Four.Zero. Keep in mind that this program costs a WHOPPING 13 bucks. Of course I told him that no I couldn't, and that he'd have to have my HotSync name for the reg code to work..this guy kept me chuckling to myself for a while.
haha I got an email from that kid too, asking for my registration code for four.zero... someone should report em to the feds
Cant he just save up his lunch money and buy it!??
Well thatll show you, there are the honest, and the dishonest folks out there... funny how he can afford a $249 visor, but not the $13 school software.
Thought I'd add my two cents into it...
I'm a 16 year old junior and just got a gvs a few weeks ago. I, too, cannot see how I lived without one. I am sooo organized now in school, at work and at home.
During classes when the teacher assigns homework or says something worth taking notes, I whip out my visor and scribble graffiti (which took me about 10 minutes to master) into the to do list or memo pad. I never forget to study for tests any more, as I go to the date book to record the day I have a test in a class, as soon as the teacher announces it.
Also, I have AvantGo which I cannot reccomend enough. Before going to school, I sync up my visor to get the latest happenings, techie news, weather, and tv specials...I can read any time on the way to school, during boring class lectures or whenever.
I have to admit this little thing is a chick magnet too
All the girls in class are like "that is soo cool" and "how did you do that!!". I love the attention, but sometimes it gets jaded acting like a visor sales person all the time explaining all the features and benefits.
BTW, I've gotten 2 friends and a teacher to buy one!!!
The ONLY problem I have is the bottom part of the screen where you write is all scratched up. I always write extremely lightly and smooth, but I have a feeling, from reading other posts, that this is a combination of the cheap plastic stylus and me not having a vinyl screen protector. I'm going to call up handspring to get it exchanged and recommend that they distribute a protector with the package.
Whew...that's what I have to say.

PS this is my first post and I love this site--it was my final encouragement to order a visor!!

Welcome to Visor Central! I am glad to see that the negative posts her didn't dissuade you from getting the Visor. You bought a great product that will even be greater when the modules are released
.
I have a question for any of you teachers that might be checking on your students in this topic.
Are any teachers using their palm to keep track of things like students grades and assignments? If so, what kind of software are you using? I'm new to PDA's and am not sure what is available.
Thanks

I live in Smithtown, NY... Here in the high school our teachers are testing a new palmpilot developed by Symbol technologies to record student grades, attendance, and file referals.
Since our school is one of the first to work on a wireless network, the PalmPilot's use the RF to sync data with the main computer system.
Each palm pilot has a barcode reader, which is able to scan the barcode on the back of every student's ID card.. Each teacher also recieves a piece of paper with every students barcode.. and 3 other barcodes to mark LATE ABSENT or PRESENT, this saves time from the teacher going around the class for everyones card.
A teacher can also view certain details about a student such as, phone#, address, parents work #'s, health files, any allergies... and they can also make a phone call from the palm by graffitiing the #, which is then dialed in the main office, and the teacher can talk through the phone in the classroom (yes theres a phone box in the wall of every class)...
All and all this is a pretty hightech system , which is still being beta tested by a few teachers. There are great advantages, but still some bugs to be worked out.
If anyone elses school uses this system please let me know, because as far as I know we are the first.
-----wow thats a long post
wow, i wish i was in your school. that must be cool. All we have are a few macs connected to the internet and one Airport thingy.

YEA!!! SMITHTOWN KICKS!!!!
Oh yea....we're gonna be on dateline, so we'll tell ya guys when we're airing
Frosty your school sounds awesome!...hell, i wish i lived there ^__^. All we have is the lastest and greatest 200mhz teal iMACS F*** YEAH! but seriously, i wish our school had some more computer people in it because it gets pretty damn old having to surf a network running on AppleShare or some crap and dual 56k modems...oh well...better go to a good technical college.
heheh...Our (frosty's and mine) has aroudn 1700 computers.....most of them are networked using a 2.4gig frequence wirelessly at speeds upto 10mpbs
damn....aren't we cool to be the first school in the nation (possibly and most likely the world) to have the wireless/palm networks? The only downside to that is obviously issues of hacking and your parents will be able to go on the net and find out all your grades, hw, attendance in real time. So lets say you cut second period, and they go online right after second period to check your stuff....well they would know you skipped second period right from the net
.....grrr.......the big bro's watching.....THE BIG BROTHER'S WATCHING!!!! beware citizens...
Yeah, and we are connected with dual cable lines.. so internet browsing is VERY FAST!
as for the guy with his school connected on dual 56k's MOVE OUT OF THE DISTRICT!!!
Wish I could.....
