Question

Folks,

Does anybody know how to establish a TCP/IP connection between a visor and a PC via the serial or USB craddle ?

PS: Mocha32PPP seems to work fine for Palms but not for Visors.

Thanks for your help.

Imagine that once you've set up the connection, you could control your PC with PalmVNC, would be great, eh !

Post Mocha PPP via IR

Unfortunately, the Visor's implementation of a serial port doesn't allow it to work with MochaPPP via the serial cradle and TCP/IP over USB is only doable under linux so far. I have been able to setup a PPP link between MochaPPP and Visor via the IR port and a serial port infrared dongle, but it is slooow.

Could you explain how you've done it please.

Thanks,

No problem.

To be honest, between the MochaPPP registration nag screens, having to keep the visor IR port and PC IR port aligned, and slow connection speed, it's probably not worth it , but here goes:

First, of course, you need to have an IR port. Serial IR dongles like the ActiSys one run about $40. Once it is installed, Windows will assign it a virtual COM port, like COM4. Make sure MochaPPP uses the virtual COM port for the connection.

If you've got a Visor or Visor Deluxe, make sure you've got the appropriate Palm IR enhancements installed(available at www.palm.com . In the Prefs app on the visor, select Serial/IR from the drop-down list and select "Infrared." Now select Network from the drop-down list. Create a new service by selecting New from the Service menu. Enter 00 for the phone number.

Align the Visor IR port with the PC IR port and click the "Connect" button on the Network screen on the visor. The PC should recognize that an IR connection is being attempted and an icon showing two IR ports beaming a "pulse" back and forth will appear in the system tray. Select "Connect" from the MochaPPP File menu.

If all goes well, you'll have a networked visor.
