- How To / Troubleshooting (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/forumdisplay.php?forumid=2)
-- Completely stuck in the UK (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=2685)
Folks,
Hoping someone here can help me. I'm in the UK, and bought my Visor through EBay. I've had problems with the Visor since day one, and have spent about 2 hours on the phone to Handspring *long* distance trying to resolve them. Because they don't ship internationally, they can't let a senior engineer call me. So I'm stuck. Here's the problem:
setup: Win98, Visor Deluxe, USB hotsync, MS Exchange on a LAN
problem: Hotsync fatally crashes the PC whenever something remote (e.g. Exchange server, AvantGo) is accessed
I've recently reinstalled Win98 and Palm Desktop, and performed a hard reset on the Visor. Still no luck.
I'm doing local USB HotSync (as I understand it, Outlook should be connecting with the Exchange server, not the Visor -- though have tried using network USB settings in case, with no luck).
Before I used MS Exchange, the only thing that crashed the PC during HotSync was AvantGo. Now that we use Exchange, however, even mail and calendar crash the PC -- which makes me think it's a network access problem.
So, given that Handspring can't help me -- probably unwise given the amount of attention that my Ice Visor attracts in meetings -- does anyone have any idea what might be wrong?
I can live without AvantGo (for now), but without mail, calendar, etc., I'm starting to miss my Palm Pro.
Thanks for listening!
Jez
I'm in UK too.
I use similar setup - Win98, Exchange, Outlook2000, serial hotsync.
I've noticed that syncing is v e r y much slower when syncing to Exchange. As a matter of choice, I'll run Outlook "offline" - you'll need to configure your folders for offline access - and syncing is much quicker.
Try it - it may make a difference.
Cheers
Ed
