-- IR Hotsync anybody? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=2609)

Question

OK, this might have been discussed earlier.
But I searched the archives for 20 min and could not find the relevant post(s). Maybe I am just too stupid, but I got the impression that the search function did not work properly. In the results a post by MarkEagle came up, but when I clicked the link, I got a totally different topic ?!

Anyway, has anybody successfully synced his Visor using the IR port of his PC/Laptop?
Is there a cheap/free s/w out there that I will need to do that? As far as I remember, I read somewhere that the Visor will not work with the Palm IR enhancement.

Tnx!

Here's one of the threads.

And yes, I've done it. Worked real nice. Except that I use BackupBitser and the first sync took a REAL long time.

Thanks, dennisl!

I just d/l the software, I think I am gonna play around a little during the weekend. Maybe I will also try the IBM version (free), perhaps it works...

Anyway, thanks for your help!

Yes it works. It can take quite a bit to get your PC/laptop to do it. See Handsprings website. They have the necessary finally listed under their Support site. Be very careful about the Palm IR link files that you will need to download as there are one or two of the four files that you DEFINATELY do NOT want to use. Handspring tells you which ones

On the laptop, you may have to actually edit your Registry to get it to recognize the proper Ir Com port. I did, but I have an IBM ThinkPad. Some Toshiba's do and some dont??? Anyway, let me know if you get stuck and I will try to help.

bjmarler-
I also have a TP. It is a model 600e running Win2000. Were you able to hotsynch through the IR on Win95, 98, or Win2000? Until the Win2000 USB drivers are released (other neighboring threads indicates they are days away) I wanted to be able to hotsynch in two ways - IR and USB. I feel the other would be a good backup.

Any registry tips or other advice?

google - - I'm not trying to bombard you with bad news, but I do want to make sure that if anyone is selectively reading threads that they get the word: there is no solution for IR hot syncing under Win2k.

Given the requirements for IR under Win2k, don't look for a solution from any quarter anytime soon. However, for those of you in a networked environment, there are IR LAN solutions that get around this issue.

I had the trial of IR Link and of course my thirty days is up. I tried to order the full package. The website said that I would receive an e-mail confirming my purchase but I naver got anything and my credit card has not been charged. Has anyone else had luck ordering?
