Folders in FlashPlus

I am using the Innopocket FlashPlus in my VDX with a 64 MB Mr. Flash card. I am also using a PQI-USB CF/SM card reader.

With the reader, I discovered I can use Windows ot create new folders on the card and jam them full of stuff. I have about 200+ files in there- movies, books, backups, etc. and am only using 20 Mg. of it.

By setting up the folders, I can organize this stuff, and still directly access DOCs with CSpotRun.

I can also save directly to one of my new folders by going to the CF card, selecting the folder to move into, going back to RAM, then copying the folder. The selected folder shows up as the destination.

We will be going on vacation in the near future, and i am having fun shifting my 'hometown' stuff to the CF card, and loading it with stuff for the destination.

FlashPlus and FAFileMover- pretty cools stuff!

(By the way, I also have JackBack, so the FlashPlus is my back-up module as well. I copied the necessary files ot the CF card, so I shoudl be able to restart after a bad crash pretty easily- although I have not tested this)

I agree. Using a big CF card with FAFilemover is so tedious. I'm very thankful for Kopsis' excellent work on Compact Flash extensions, but this software is too minimalist. If at least it had a function to MOVE files (not copy then manually delete) and would not always return to the beginning of the file list after every file operation.

It is so much easier (and faster!) to put the card into a CF reader/writer and do these operations on the PC with a "real" file manager. Since I have a Sandisk Imagemate I can use the additional storage much more efficiently. Hotsyncing 10 MB of documents in several parts (because of limited Visor RAM) and moving it to the right folders on the card is not something you'll like to do every week.

I see you're using a Mr. Flash brand CF card. I hope that means I'll be able to use my 128 Meg Mr Flash CF Card with my soon to be delivered MemPlug-CF.

Like you I also invested in a USB reader. I am using a DANE-ELEC Compact Flash/SmartMedia Combo reader. Having Windows see the card as just another drive is great. I even use the Windows ScanDisk to make sure there are no errors on the card.

I am really looking forward to my MemPlug. PI HURRY UP!!!!

Fare thee well,
Swiftshadow

A lot of the features that you mentioned will be in future versions of FAFileMovever for sure. Remember that this is just version 1.4.2. He had to be minimalist so that "regular" (ie non power users) know how to use and operate the software.

Question Are you able to read PDF files right from the flashplus?

I probably should've asked this before I ordered it, but can you read Adobe Acrobat PDF files right off the Flashplus module, or do you have to move them to the main memory of the Visor and then move them back to the Flashplus when you're finished? I have a bunch of 40MB Sandisk CF modules that I used to use with my digital photography, but now have replaced them with a IBM Microdrive, so I should have plenty of storage for the 2MB Visor, provided it'll work the way they advertise it.

Thanks,
Brian

You can directly access any file CSpotRun can open- I do not know if that includes Adobe formats

The newest Acrobat Reader for Palm has support for VFS. So the answer is "Yes" to your question. Remember to download the newest version from Adobe. You also need to enable VFS software for your CF adapter.

No, CSpotRun won't support PDF files. You need Acrobat Reader for Palm from Adobe or some other converter softwares.

Just to confirm what HXH said - I've got Acrobat reader and pdf files both on my Flashplus with my Deluxe and it works great with VFSHelper. I've tried Acrobat both on the card and on the Visor and it works equally well either way.

Cool Thanks for the Info!

If I can run Acrobat and launch the pdf files from the Flashplus, that's outstanding! I use a lot of pdf files for Cisco reference, and config guidlines, and thier fairly large (I filled up my 2MB Visor with about five of them). This will breath new life into the Visor jr! :-)

Also does the VSFhelper program come with the Flashplus, I don't see it mentioned on Innopockets page on the Flashplus.

Thanks again,
Brian

You can download the VFS software at the following location. You need to have your registration password handy though. It's the same password to download updated Flashplus software.

I use Installbuddy to convert PDFs to Palm-DOCs readable by CSpotrun. This way you can view PDFs on the CF card by using FAFilemover and the CSpotrun-Plugin.
