Looks interesting. How much do you think they will be selling these for?

Posted by VTL on 06-26-2001 10:27 PM:

This same question got asked in a different thread. Since I'm sure everyone cares what I think (yeah, right), I'll cross-post my answer to the question:

Looks interesting. In addition to my Prism, I use a RIM Blackberry 957, which has a similar keyboard built-in. I can type on it a little bit faster than I can do graffitti. It wouldn't replace my Stowaway for longer things, but I could see using it with a wireless or wireline modem for email, etc.

This seems to be a trend. I've read that the new Sharp PDA will have a similar keyboard built-in too.

I'd buy one, if it's not too pricey - say, under $30.

I dont know - lets say for this question we say it cost 49.95
Would you buy it?

Now say it was 29.95 would you buy it?

I don't have much need for such a keyboard but I could see it being popular with people on the go, as VTL said - its perfect for wireless communication.

I'd buy the GamePad at $30 depending on what games were bundled with it. Most games I play on the Visor use the stylus, though I do have a few which use the hard buttons. I've got a GameBoy Advance if I really want to play games, and bringing that along with my Visor is about as practical as bringing along this gamepad. If there were some really cool games though I would buy it, would probably go good with that Hagiwara sound module.

Matt,
Congrats on just hitting the 700 post point!

By the way - dont you work?

Looks pretty good to me. Only thing is, it would be nice if you could have the Visor standing up (like with the Stowaway), but I guess then it would have to be bigger. I'll have to watch for its debut!

Thanks for the link!

Barb

I'd never buy the keyboard, even if it was $10. I can graffiti about 30 words a minute. I don't think I'd be able to type much faster than that on that tiny keyboard.

I'd probably never get the gamepad either, unless it was really cheap, like $10. The controls resemble the GameBoy console, so it'll be best for GameBoy games. But I'm not too fond of playing GameBoy games on a grayscale screen (which is why I'm upgrading to the GameBoy Advance), so ...

I think the vibrating function is cool. $40 ($50 for keyboard)

I want one

I would definatley like one of these. But knowing my luck living in Australia they will take 5-10 years to get here and cost about $500 with the exchange rate. Seeing I paid $600 for my Visor.

Never heard of North Calolina? It is the only U.S State that has a smoking monkey as the governor .

I think the fact they are releasing something that fits the Deluxe and Prism cases tell a lot about what they know is coming down the road from Handspring. They are obviously betting that there will be large numbers on the way.

"We regret to inform that they will only be available for sell in the US around September. By that time, you should be able to purchase them in your local big electronics, computer or office equipment stores.

Thank you.

Bernard Chan"

Their website says End of June.

Bummer. This is the only thing announced lately that I really want. The Stowaway is great, but it isn't practical for some environments.

I've got a Blackberry through work, and I've become addicted to thumb typing - better than graffitti for some things. Of course, the RIM doesn't have a touch screen, which sucks. The Snap-on keyboard will hopefully give me the best of both worlds.
