Is the SpringBoard Really Dead?
I saw in the news that PalmOne officially owns Handspring now so I wrote to Palm Support again asking if they plan on using springboard technology in any future organizers. One might think that they can freely comment on that now that they own the technology.
The reply that I got is that "currently we cannot comment on using springboard technology in any future organizers. However, we have forwarded your comments to the appropriate epartment
for review. Please feel free to continue sharing your comments or
concerns with us in the future."
I know, I know, give it up. But not saying "no" is almost as good as saying "yes", no?
Sadly I feel its as dead as a coffin nail..

Even if the Springboard is not technically dead, it IS functionally dead. Right now, there is a Compact Flash unit that handles most of the jobs of the old modules- camera, modem, GPS, wireless, etc.
Sure, they are not as varied or as perfect of a solution as the Springboard, but they are there and they work with a wider variety of devices.
There is also the minor detail that Handspring seems to have burned several bridges and alienated a lot of customers adn manufacturers in their mad rush to abandon the Visor line for the Treo.
