Good things never last

Before I got my deluxe, I used Palm III, then Palm M100, then palm Vx. I was so impressed with the springboard technology that I didn't care anymore that the deluxe has a low resolution, no flash memory for OS upgrade and pitiful sound.

I am actually waiting for Handspring to develop a newer model, colored, with at least 16MB memory, built in SD or CF slot aside from the springboard, stronger volume but alas Handspring is abandoning its springboard modules with the introduction of the treo's. Aside from the built-in phone to some Treos I would not think of even getting them over the Sony Clie's which has better features.

I just wish Handspring would reconsider and produce another model with the springboard module on. Improve on the good things not throw them away!

Probably the ultimate direction that Handspring intended was to an integrated PDA/Phone.

Note that the Visor Phone came out a few months after the initial introduction( not sure on exact timeline).

Springboard concept is what drew me to buy my Visor Deluxe in May 2000. Backup module was first, then CF module.

Units are still going strong!!!!!!

Too bad. The non-phone Treos are not worth the price considering what the Sony's offer. Especially with the introduction of the Zaurus. I'm very interested in what an open-sourced PDA can do.

Alas, I'll have a new PDA by Christmas; but not a Handspring product at this juncture.

Leaning toward PPC since I have access to MSDN programming tools. However, my mind is open. Wait and see.........

Well I still like my Dx and Vphone combo, I think I'll be using it for a while or until one of the PDA manufacturers come up with a unit having a phone. Well the best would be something similar to the visor's springboard.

Imagine if Handspring could come up with something that is OS upgradeable (with flash rom), with 16MB memory, with a slot of SD of flash cards, with good sound (built in MP3 player), with good graphics (65,000 colors) and still keep the springboard! I would imagine that that would cost a lot but hey the benefit is great, the trend nowadays is convergence!

Your in luck. Handspring, a manufacturer of PDA's, has released the treo.

You should have specified that you didn't like the treo. Palm is supposedly coming out with one late this year. Kyocera and Samsung, maybe even Nokia have a Palm OS phone, although the Nokia might be PPC, I cannot remember.

I've seen the Kyocera, Samsung and Nokia. My combination is still better. Good news about the Palm, I'll wait for it.
