Angry

Last night I went to sync my Visor Deluxe to my home PC. I have the cable at home and the cradle at work. Anyway, when I connected the cable, the monitor went black -- the amber light came on, indicating power suspension.

The computer was essentially frozen and wouldn't even respond to the reset button. So, I pulled the plug. It booted up and ran just fine. I figured that there was some kind of a static electicity funky thing going on there when I plugged in the Visor, but wasn't too worried -- odd things happen sometimes.

However, then the Visor wouldn't sync. It timed out. I didn't worry too much, but tried it at work this morning. Same thing happened. So, I'm figuring its the Visor, not the PC.

Any suggestions? Have I blown something out on my Visor?

Thanks,
Derek

Talking

Sorry to bother you all -- should have done some more snooping before posting.

The SECOND soft reset of the Visor did the trick. It just synced w/out a problem.

Mine causes reboots, too!

At work on my Dell PC I simply can NOT set the visor on the USB cradle while the PC is booting. If I do, it will reboot the PC.

If the Visor is there before I turn on the PC, it works normally. If I set the Visor on the cradle AFTER the PC is completely booted up, there is no problem.

Is it Dell, or is it the Visor? I use a Gateway PC at home, and do not have the same problem.

These devices seem to be quite static sensitive. The other night, I plugged my minijam in to my prism and placed it in the USB cradle to load some mp3s. I felt a static discharge and when I turned on the prism, the screen initially appeared to show only every other line, then the center turned white and the white spread over 1-2 seconds to cover the entire display. The prism was locked. I tried several soft resets, which all resulted in a memory manager fatal exception. I had to hard reset to get the prism working again (I was getting quite worried by this time--fortunately, I had just backed up everything to a backup module a few hours earlier).

After restoring my prism, it seems to work fine. However, the minijam no longet worked correctly. It also listed BOT MMC cards as being empty, when one was completely full and the other half. Fortunately, I was able to hotsync the minijam 2.0 updater and re-install its code. After this, the MMC cards were again listed correctly (I was really hoping I had not blown TWO 64MB MMC cards).

The end result is that everything apppears to be working properly, but I had to reload everything into both the prism's flash memory and that of the minijam. I gotta make sure I'm better grounded before touching these things!

BTW, my computer did NOT develop any problems--just the prism/minijam.
