Since I had to "upgrade" to Windows 98 to make USB work (Upgrade? Win 98 makes my computer run at least 25% slower than before) I have a question that I bet you gurus have an answer for.

I want to make ALL directories taht I look at in explorer look like they did in Win 95. In other words I want "Show As Web Page" off in every case and "Details" on in every case.

I'm sure it's just a couple of check boxes that I have to set somewhere, but I havn't found it yet.

Thanks folks.

What's this question doing in the Visor Software forum?

Anyway, the answer is, in Windows Explorer, select "View", "Folder Options", "View", "Like Current Folder".

Upgrade shock. I had it. I found the web-style interface of 98 to be more annoyance than enhancement. Even when I set it for 'Classic' and tweaked settings extensively, they would often revert to their native webbishness.

I took the brute force route:

1. Go to www.98lite.net
2. DL the free version of the 98lite installer.
3. Run it. Be sure to have your Win95 CD handy.
4. Follow the prompts. Choose the Lean and Mean installation.

Installation is really a no-brainer. 98lite will copy the necessary shell files from the Win95 disk to your system, then patch your OS. Simply put, you'll be running the Win98 kernel with the Win95 shell. Works great for me. Gives you all the hardware (yes, USB) support of Win98 with the lean Explorer shell of Win95.

Plus, if you happen to have something against IE4/5, you can completely remove it from your system also (despite MS's claims necessary integration).

1) Folder Options did the trick.

2) It's on this forum because the whole reason I had to "upgrade" is because it was the only way to get USB to work which was teh only way to hot-sync my Visor. (a round about rational for sure, that's my story and I'm sticking to it)

Anyway, my computer looks familier again, even if it is slower.

I actually use a program called Powerdesk Explorer. It's like the regular Windows Explorer, but it actually works like it's supposed to. It even has a dos command line at the bottom (cool).

Why bother with Win98Lite? Hell, trash the dumpy windows shell entirely with Litestep or some other shell replacement www.litestep.org. Much better and much more customizable.
