-- The best screen protector! My review! (as promised) (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=3758)

Thumbs up

I got my Easy Peel Film and I did say I would post my review.

First let me say that they don't by default offer the correct size, but I contacted them and asked if they would cut them to 8cm x 6cm. They said they would at no additional charge! So first off a big thumbs up for customer service! What I didn't realize, in my favor, was that when cut down, each of the sheets I ordered made 2 screen protectors. So since I ordered 2 sets, I really got 8 for $6.50. Beats the hell out of WrightRights.

The fit of the Easy Peel Film was perfect, and it is almost perfectly clear. The screen looks as clear as it does without any screen protection, unlike the WrightRights where the screen gets a fuzzy or blurry look to it. I did get a few bubbles under the film, but because it works on static cling, I could remove and apply it again and again until I got it right. I thought about the previous post mentioning the use of a tiny amount of soapy water to help get the bubbles out....but I am too unsure of myself to get water on the screen of my new Visor.

As for the feel when writing, the tip of my stylus doesn't slide across the screen as smoothly as it did with the WriteRights or just the screen alone. I actually prefer it, I don't feel like the stylus is slipping out from under me, but it is definately not the 'Pen on Paper' we have heard talked about. I has more of a drag to it....but I don't want to make it sound like a negative.

I also wanted to test any effects it might have on handwriting. As should be done when using any screen protectors, I reran the Digitizer first. I wrote for awhile in Memo Pad and didn't notice any change. I did notice I didn't make as many mistakes as I normally do, but I just installed EVEdit hack and perhaps the Graphitte Echo was helping. I can say it didn't effect the regocnition in a negative way.

The only thing I can't comment on was how well it held up....only time will tell.....but being as it is a soft plastic, I would think a change would be required in 1-2 months. Which means I already have 8-16 months supply for a fraction of WriteRight's price!

Overall....I love it! The cost is perfect, the clarity is wonderful, and the feel is top notch. You can order them direct from www.easypeel.com . When I placed my order they didn't accept credit cards, only mail order and strangley enough, faith orders (under $20). When I contacted them, I told them about PayPal.com and I know they signed up, I am just not sure if they are using it yet. The trick to ordering is to order the 4.75" x 3.5" size and adding a comment for the correct size. If you order online, make sure you put a quantity in the other box, or the comment doesn't come through on the order.

I hope this helps out those looking for a replacement to WriteRights, or just looking for their first screen protector. At the price, you can't lose just to order a few and try them out!

Question

Couple questions:

It's called "film", but how thick is it really compared to WriteRights? Thinner, thicker?

How does it compare to clear vinyl?

Thanks.

I can't tell you the exact thickness....but it is thicker than WrightRights....but not much at all.... I talked to Chris at Easy Peel, and he was wondering about a thinner sheet....I don't think it needs to be thinner, but if I get to test one I will let you know my opinion of it.

As far as being compared to clear vinyl....I am not sure what you are refering too, so I can't say....sorry.

I ordered the easy peel and they work fine. I do have to say that I am not too fond of the rubber like surface that doesn't allow for the smooth sliding of the stylus. I fixed this by taking some lamination material (used to laminate cards and other paper products) and place it on one side of the easy peel. This way I have the smooth side for the stylus and the other side still uses static to attach itself to the screen.

When putting on the lamination material make sure not to trap any bubbles. I have also fount that the lamination material I used wasnt that strong to wears out after about a month. So I would be make sure a buy some tough lamination material.

I know this may sound expensive with using the combination of materials. The following was my cost. I see that the Write Rights cost about $28 plus tax and shipping. So it looks as thought you would be spending about the same amount. I havent used the Write Rights so I cannot comment on which is better.

Cost: 12 easy peal films (six 2 packs @ $2.95 each pack) ~ $18
1 package of 8.5x11 lamination material (6 sheets)~ $6
Total: $24

Good Luck!!

rclayton: Thanks for the review!

Just so people can make price comparisons, WriteRights can be found for much less than Concept Kitchen's retail price (they mark their price up so as not to compete with their distributors).

buy.com has them right now for $16:

Thanks for the advice homer.....unfortunatly I paid about $25 bucks for my WrightRights at OfficeMax.....oh well.....I am putting the other 9 on ebay tonight!

Also, as a side note, I saw on ConceptKitchens site that they are making a clear WrightRight for use with the PalmIIIc.....

Just my 2 cents. I read the reviews of WriteRights and Peelwhatevers, and I still think that the best purchase cost/effectiveness wise is to buy a 1/3 yard of 8 guage vinyl for 69 cents, and cut the screen protectors.

I have enough vinyl to last a lifetime. I am providing them to my friends free of charge. Want one? I have had the same piece of vinyl on my VDX for the past 3 months, and there is no sign of wear. Check out the web site link in FAQ on Screen Protectors on VisorCentral.

I'm with you, Larry. The clear vinyl is by far the cheapest solution and is really no more work than the commercially available products.

Just my 5 cents worth (I can afford it because the vinyl is cheap! )

Cool

I like vinyl as well.
My only problem is cutting the little monsters so that the edges are straight and the corners are 90 degrees.
I tried X-acto knives, but the stuff stretches so that it throws you off!

Exclamation

That's why I like the Easy Peel Film....he cuts them at no extra charge...and @ around $3 for 4.....it is cheap (IMHO)
