I confess....
All this talk about the future of the edge has made me all guilty.
I did it. I'm one of those that bought an edge, and then sold it for less than respectable reasons.
For those who feel abandoned with an edge, Here are some things you should feel proud and lucky about:
The flip cover: This was one of the best parts of the edge. Thin, strong, spring loaded, stylish, removable, and lets you not worry about fingerprinting the screen when you hold it
The Stylus: I'm one of the few that enjoyed the stylus. Easy to attach to the body, & weighted well.
The Cradle: This is a great cradle. zero insertion force. Weighted as well. matched the pda. Slide in, Slide out.
The speaker: The speaker was loud enough to be an alarm clock. Very loud. MUCH louder than an m505.
The Fastlookup: I used the fast lookup, I miss it. I am currently looking for an adress book with that feature.
The looks: I know, this is totally varies from person to person, but I really do think that the edge is a best looking pda.
As i've told people before, the Edge is absolutely the BEST out of box pda available. You don't need an aftermarket case, you don't need batteries, you don't need a new stylus, you don't need a lot of things that Other pda users end up looking to replace.
FYI, I switched over to a Palm m505. (if the colour edge came out, i'd switch in a heartbeat).

I did it too...
OK, I also confess, that I bought and paid an Edge. I had great plans to enhance it with several tools like GPS, VisorPhone, etc.
My story began with a non connectable Edge and the support of handspring was absolutely incompetently to give the right advice. They only sent the same workarounds again and again and didn't had the clue that this thing was just defect and had to be switched.
Further I am still waiting on the fix for the IR hotsync with W2K with a jealous look on the happy palm users using it since weeks. Until this day I carry that heavy weight cradle with me in my Notebook pocket.
With "removable cover" is from my point of view meant that it removes the serial number when you add and remove it a few times.
In addition the prices in germany for the modules are disgusting high: The visorphone is 299 Dollar in US and approx. 450 Dollar in germany. Each accessory must be ordered in the www because no seller has handspring stuff.
The german website of handspring is a information desert compared to the US site.
Folks, I love my edge but I feel cheated and left alone. I decided to by a (real) palm as soon as possible.
Wasn't there a work-around for W2K IR support? I'll see if I can hunt it down.
Here you go.
That's one down, I can't do anything about someone else's incompetency, I don't think having the serial number worn off is a big deal, and I'd suggest sending an email off to HS about their prices. You never know the response they'll give.
That said, I'm of the opinion (naturally) that your "pseudo-Palm" is as good, if not better, than a "real" Palm. You can't afford the bells and whistles (didn't you check the prices before you bought your visor?), so you're sitting even keel with 90% of Palm users.
Expansion is for sissies, anyway.

Hi Dick, thanks for your hint with the workaround but as you know I prefer the real things, so I want the fix from handspring. Also is clear that you are not guilty on someone else's incompetency.
Being without serial number is a big deal when I read in the german support "W2K fix available this summer, you need your serial number to get it", Dick.
Concerning an email to HS complaining the prices you are right, I never know the answer because I already sent one and got no answer
.
Yes, I checked the prices before and thought that I invested in an expansible system. But all I see are dozens of backup modules or high price stuff like the visorphone with 150% the price as in US.
No comment to the "sissies".

Too much work. I just duct taped a 128 SDRAM chip to the back of my edge. Never been happier.

Sorry folks...

is a typo. I didn't get an answer, so the "now" is supposed to be a "no".
Was nice to meet you all, especially deeply involved Dick.
