Question

While I sit and wait for my Memplug--

Has anyone addressed the issue of security with add-on modules? I use TealLock on my Prism, but if it were stolen, there is nothing to prevent the theif from using a different Visor to access the data I have stored on the Memplug (or whatever memory card).

Has anything been written to address this problem or is anything in the works? Does anyone else have similar concerns or do you just make sure your sensitive data is stored on the main unit?

I e-mailed MemPlug about this same issue but never recieved a response.

I am assuming that if the information is from a backup, it will be in the same form as on the Visor and therefore it can not be read w/o the proper program and password, I hope.

The SM Card is no more than a hard drive with a file system and such. You can use a USB reader to get whatever you want from an SM card.

On a program by program basis data files could be encrypted for storage.

This is a good topic & an important concern.
I just presumed I'd carry a bunch of pix (incl. taking EM2 pix & vid on the run), e-books, etc., so I wouldn't really have to worry too much about security. But that was prob. short-sighted. Even if I never really put anything "critical" on an ext. card, it'd be great peace of mind to know some kind of security could be quickly engaged.

I'm not sure I would put that much faith in TealLock if you're really worried about data security. Knowledgeable types probably can find their way around these types of "locking" systems. Encryption is the way to go if you want to secure your data both on the handheld and the SmartMedia card. But then there's the problem of securing the encryption key...
