reviews

It seems upon going to the web site, there are many extremely satisfied customers to this individual's work (in his feedback page on his site). Does anyone have any negative experiences with this "palm mechanic?", or are there any Edge owners out there that have sent your Visors to him? I am thinking of upgrading my Edge to 16mg, so I'm wondering if it's worth the $129 he's charging for Edge owners, or if his work is exactly what he posts on his feedback page (my only other alternative is to wait and see if the possibly new color Edge will come out with 16mgs).
Thanks.

My concern is this: With so many edges crapping out recently, do you feel safe spending $129 on something you may have to send back to Handspring? Furthermore, warranty is kaput (if Handspring finds out). I'd be seriously hesitant about sending away your edge unless you've had it for awhile, and KNOW it won't be going bye-bye.

Upgrade

I'm with you StiMPy. As soon as my Edge arrived I was going to send it in to get the upgrade. After visiting here and doing some research, I decided to hold off until I'm sure it won't be acting up, which it did earlier today. Its back up and running but I don't know for how long, I'd hate to have spent the $$ and then have to send it back. I still WANT the 16 mb I'll just have to wait a little while longer.

isn't it cheaper to get external memory?

External memory has its limitations. You can only use one springboard at a time. and with the Edge its cumbersome at best. 16 meg would go a long way in the visor.

I already have two 8mg Flash Modules (unfortunately, got them before the 16mg one came out; was using them way back with my Deluxe, then my Platinum). Ricojrossi is right, unfortunately, with the Edge, changing modules is more of a pain in the butt than with the regular Visors (Platinum, Deluxe, etc..) because of the piggyback, the thicker form factor with it on, and the inavailability of the flip cover with the piggyback on.

However, fortunately, I haven't had any problems with my Edge acting up (as many have posted)(I've had it for about a month now). But at the same time, that doesn't make me want to ship my Edge out either!(with StiMPy making a great point about the warranty!) I'll admit to "chickening out"; guess I'll have to wait for a post from the first brave Edge owner to have the upgrade done!

Thumbs up His upgrades are good

Well I don't have an edge to upgrade but I have sent my palmlll to him for an upgrade to 8megs. He did such a great job I recomended him to my sister who sent him a palmV. You couldn't even tell that it had been opened.

Now I do recomend him but I must admit that I would indeed feel uneasy about sending my brand spanking new $400 Edge (if I had one) to some guy to crack open and void its warranty.
So would I take the plunge? If I had the edge and the extra money I think I would. More memory is always good.
