-- Win2K and USB (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=2581)
CapnZero,
Well, this is going to be my last post about people *****ing because they didn't read all of the material about a product or it's support (or lack thereof) of a BETA!! product. Handspring is to be chastised for taking so long to get their USB drivers ready, however they did have information available that let customers and potential customers know what was and was not supported.
As to the menu analogy, if you had read all of the material you would have known to order the serial cradle and not to have expected USB support under Win2k. Simple enough to understand.
As I said originally, quit your *****in and buy the serial cradle or wait for the Desktop software update.
I think the real issue here is poor customer service and the f*****-up handling of this situation by Handspring.
I too bought my Visor assuming that there would be out of the box USB support for Win2K, which I've had installed on my computer since December. When it didn't work, I emailed Handspring Customer Support and got this response:
"Currently our plan is to have the drivers available for windows 2000 on the official launch date of February 17th. Please visit our web site for information."
As you know the drivers weren't available Feb 17, and then we got the song and dance that they weren't going to be available until March. When I emailed customer support to complain and asked to be part of their beta program, they said they would be sending me information "shortly".
Well guess what folks...it's March 23 and we haven't heard a peep out of Handspring yet. It just seems unbelievable to me that Win2K was in beta for over a year and has been in final production code since Dec...yet Handspring waits until March to work on drivers for its *one and only* product.
So is anyone actually participating in the beta program? Presumably you can't answer that question without getting kicked out of the beta program, but if you are, just whistle "fur elise", and we'll know.
(Oh, yeah, and post the files up somewhere we can get it.)
I'd **really** like to have drivers for my laptop before I have to go out of town the next time.
Someone that prefers not to be identified has verified to me that there is indeed a beta version out there, and that it works. So the only question left is how soon they will choose to release it.
And, of course, I was out of line suggesting that they put them somewhere for download, as they have certainly signed agreements saying that they would not do that.
