Cool

Okay.. Two services now.. Omnisky beats Yada yada by $50 since they offer a $200 rebate whereas YadaYada sells the modem at $150 flat (it's like the rebate is instantly applied! I'll take that instead of waiting 6 months!). However, now about service.... Yada yada uses verizon and Omnisky uses att. yada yada is shipping, while Omnisky isn't... yet... YY allows full access to all sites where the "competition" Doesn't. Future color and IMAP support for YY too. Hmm am I missing anything else? Umm.. Confirmed future mac support for YY.

Now, one concern is this, I know Omnisky has special internet type sites such as Etrade and Ebay etc that are made FOR Omnisky.. However, can YY use these as well or do you have to physically go to the webpage (since you can view 100%)? Personally, I'd like to have Wireless PDA specific sites so I don't download everyting that the "real " webpage has to offer. Can anyone confirm this?

Well, here it is... The two services that we now (thankfully) have! Which one comes out on top for you?

Mike

I went with YadaYada today for the very same (positive) reasons you mentioned. Also because I will get better coverage with Verizon in So Cal (I read elsewhere that Onmisky doesn't even have good coverage in Orange County).

I still have 2 remaining questions:

1 - Will I be able to use PQA's with YadaYada?

2 - Will I be able to dial into my corporate RAS with this modem? Or is it limited to a direct connection to the Internet?

Mike...I'd think that the WAP sites for Etrade etc would fullfill your needs...why would it be necessary to use Omnisky specific pages? I'd suggest PLINK-IT through AVANTGO as a possibility...works with the THINMODEM, so I'd assume it would work with Yada Yada....Keep us posted, I'm interested in how the service works out.

Question Anyone use Yada Yada?

Greetings All,

Yep.. I'm going to get a wirerless modem. Omnisky or Yada yada service??? I like that fact that they use Verizon in NYC a lot of people have trouble with AT&T cell.

But OmniSky is offering the modem for $99. not $149 and also a $200 dollar rebate if I upgrade from my Visor DLX. Might do that for the 6 months then try Yada service for 6 months and see who's I like.

What do you folks think?

Yada-Yada vs. Omnisky

I have been an Omnisky customer since they opened their doors to the public. I BEG YOU......don't go to the dark side. Their customer service reps are light on knowledge.....and they LIE LIE LIE. Don't count on that 200 dollar rebate. I was told by multiple reps that I was to recieve my $150 rebate at the end of October. I called today to see when it was to be deposited and I was told that I was not to recieve it until the end of NOVEMBER! I just sold my modem to a guy going on what they said. Now I have the option of either paying for a month of his service so that I MIGHT get my promised rebate, or taking it in the rear and losing my rebate. Yada-Yada on the other hand.....their $149 price is upfront, no "rebates"......and on top of that....they are cool as hell there, courteous, they really try to get stuff done for you. I am placing my order with them at 1-800-YadaYada as soon as I get off of hold with OmniWePromiseYouRebatesAndSodomizeYouWithoutSendingYouFlowers. Trust me....I don't work for them, I can't guarantee Yada-Yada won't be ****ty, but I can promise you that they aren't Omnisky.

I'm not sure you were clear... Please tell us what you really think. :-)

Talking

It's been released that YadaYada will also offer a $100 rebate if you buy a Prism or Platinum. I'm not sure if you have to buy it within 30 days of buying the modem. I know that Omnisky only gives you 30 days. I plan on going with YadaYada!

Where did you hear about the Yada Yada rebate?

I just called Yada Yada and they said they are not offering a rebate.

I'm totally frustrated -- finally, the wireless connectivity that I've been waiting 10 months for, and now that the modules are out, my 10-month old VDx is obsolete.

I feel like having a tantrum.

Post

VisorCentral had it in a news article last Friday. This is what it stated:

"Furthermore, YadaYada offers a $100 rebate for VDX owners that purchase a VPL or VPR, and activate their service between October 23 and January 31."
"The modem, a branded Minstrel S Springboard module, initially sells for $149 (after rebate mentioned above) with a six-month service contract. Unlimited service is available for $39.95 per month."

It could be this is so new that some of the reps may not know about yet. I hope it is true

I ordered the service on Saturday, and the rep I spoke with heard about the rebate but did not have the details yet. I called back today to get further details, but they still have not been updated. He said they should have the details pretty soon (I will call at the end of the week if and when I get my modem). The rep I worked with was very helpfull (a good sign I hope!).

But as it stands, I will get the modem for $149. If there is a rebate GREAT, if not...oh well.

BTW, does anyone know if this "modem" will be able to dial into other services? I would like to dial into my RAS and be able to do a network hotsync.

Arrow Info as of 10/31

Hi,

I got this email today (10/31) in responce to my email about the rebate.
=====

The $149 for YadaYada & $99 for Omnisky are correct. But in
both cases you must agree to contract and subscribe for
6-months before the rebates are applied to your billing.

As for now we are not offering any rebate for upgrades on
the Visor model but we are consistantly responding to our
competition.

YadaYada uses both AT&T Wireless Services and Verizon. Your
carrier is dependant on the area of the country in which you
reside.

Thanks and pls consider YadaYada...

Fred Hurst @ YadaYada

Well, I received my modem from YadaYada today. I have been playing with it all evening, and love it. Now that I have it, I see that my RAS dialup questions were rather stupid (I had a different idea of how this worked).

Playing with the different browsers: EudoraWeb , YadaYada, and AvantGo, I think I prefer Avantgo when I what a site that has color graphics (discovery.com shows up real well on the Prism). I was not impressed with EudoraWeb (only returned text, no graphics or color).

I believe that we can run PQA's on the Prism. I found this page that discusses "Web Clipping" on devices other than the Palm VII.

http://www.geocities.com/daveinfopa...bclipping.html

I will give it try tomorrow. I REALLY need the In-N-Out Burger PQA

Cool Yada/Omni/Handspring..???

What a mess. I'm I the only one a little confused? Does it work with a Visor DLX? Will Handspring upgrade you to v3.5? Is there life on Mars?

Well I have 2 of 3:

1) I just got off the phone with both YadaYada & Handspring. YadaYada says you need OS3.5 for the modem. So I called Handspring. They are sending me a new Visor DLX same model and color but with a new OS3.5 and what ever esle inside is need to help the possible RF problem. They say I should get it on Monday and when I get it I have 14 days to return my old unit or they will charge my credit card. Sounds fare.

Now I have to pick YadaYada or Omnisky. Right now I'm leaning to the YadaYada. I'm in NYC and they are using Verizon for this area and for upstate NY that I also need.

My head hurts...

Thumbs down I am VERY disappointed!

This is NOT good. As you see from my last post Handspring was going to send me a new VDLX with the RF fix and OS3.5

Well I got the unit today (11/3) and NO OS change. I just got off the phone with HS and every time I call I get a different responce. Now they say I don't need OS3.5 and that is "should" work with OS3.1. I said that "should" is NOT a good answer. And since both Omnisky and YadaYada say they will NOT service it if used on anything under OS 3.3 that I am now VERY disappointed. I hate when you can't get a straight answer. I rather hear an answer I don't like then hear a different one each time I call. Does not help in the confidence department.

Bye.
