It's from Sony's new Palm/OS Pda...
My question is.. Can ANY palm licencee do this kind of Mod to the standard palm apps?
If so, could Handspring? This would be soooooooo great for me..

When I was at PC Expo, I asked Hawkins about modifying the Address Book more. He seemed to indicate that they could do whatever they wanted as long as it was compatible with other PalmOS products.

Seriously, I have an eyemodule, and it would be fantastic. I am much more a face person than a name person and having this info would be sooooo usefull. Maybe they could integrate it into datebk5?
Also, does anyone know if the palm has capabilities built in to display bitmaps? So that it would be relatively easy to call a function to display the bitmap, because I was thinking that a Hack may be able to do something akin to this, If you clicked say on the name, a submenu would come out asking you to choose a picture, or if you already had a picture, it would pop it up...

Could someone modify the Palm DB or DB+ to have pictures? WIth some of the coding software out there, I don't think it would be too hard.

It appears to be a replacement address book with pictures, but it's limited to Color and PalmOS 3.5 currently. The developer mentions support for grayscale on PalmOS 3.5 later, but nothing about previous versions of the OS.

Not so sure about that... if you use 100x100 images (a little liberal on the size, given how small the visor's screen is) uncompressed, at 1 byte per pixel (that's 512 colors, don't remember how many the IIIc screen supports, but I doubt it's that many) we're only talking 10,000 bytes per image (around 9.8KB) uncompressed (like a bitmap or tif).

8MB of memory would allow you to store ~ 830 of those, and many more for those with extra memory modules. Compressing to even to a .gif format (not usually very good for pictures, but if the pallete's only 512 anyway, reducing to 256 or 128 isn't SO bad, especially if we're talking shades of grey instead of colours) you could fit 2x or 4x as many. I think that a utility that lets u use the 8MB module as your "photo pack" would be a great idea. Even brand it differently & include the SW. There's my $.02

PS: before everyone yells @ me & says that 10,000 bytes = 10K, check your CS text - there are actually 2^10 bytes in 1K, not 10^3.
