-- reverse backlight (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=11772)

Posted by Leo on 02-12-2001 09:05 PM:

I'm tired of the crappy backlight that came with my visor. I can barely see it except when i'm in total darkness...which completely defeats the purpose of backlight! is there any software or hardware addons that'll reverse my backlight to the Palm III type backlight?

Thanks, Leo

in the reviews, this was mentioned...

quote:
06-Jul-00 by Gregory LindseyIt should be noted that the same effect can be accomplished (at least in OS 3.1 and above) by going into a Memo Pad and writing the Shortcut stroke followed by ".8" (no quotes). The shortcut should be replaced by "[Inverting Backlight]". Do it again to get back to normal; it will say "[Normal Backlight]".
does this work on the visor platinum?

I suspect so, but the hack is free and saves having to remember to re-invoke the dot-command after a reset.

Question

There seems to be a variety of hacks that do this very thing. Is there one that is better than the others or are they all the same?

Forgive me if this seems "dim"....ha..ha...ha.

Except that it doesn't take up memory and it actually reverses that backlight, as opposed to the hacks which switch the regular pixels black and vice versa. The pisser is it doesn't work with the deluxe, and I don't think it works with the platinum either. If a platinum owner can confirm that'd be great (If it does work with the platinum I'm jumping on board).

I'll grant you the first point (although hacks are generally so small that if you they cause you memory concerns you are already in trouble )

But as for your second point...huh?!? How can you "reverse" a light? Does a reverse light somehow suck photons in instead of giving them off? Does the dot command somehow create a mini-black hole behind the screen?

Seriously, there is no difference between the modus operandi of the .3 dot command or any of the backlight reversing hacks - they both invert the black and white pixels to give an inverse lighting effect.

I've tried the reverse backlight shortcut on my platinum and it doesn't seem to work.
