Yeah. Aside from the attached, I think it's my best avatar.

Toby, do you think if I'd have not mentioned the tone of your picture, people wouldn't have read that tone in your posts? And, out of curiosity, is cajun an ethnicity sort of thing or more of a way of life?

Was it you who mentioned it? I really don't remember at this point. Regardless, I did notice people misreading intentions before somebody pointed it out. Until it was pointed out, though, I never connected the two. Probably due to the fact that I personally don't correlate avatars with anything. *shrug*

Cajun is a anglicized version of Acadien (you'd have to hear it pronounced to understand). In some ways, it's both an ethnicity _and_ a way of life (well, more an outlook on life, but that would get a bit involved, so I won't go into it). It's primarily an ethnicity, though (like being Italian, Irish, whatever). Basically, the Acadians were from a certain region in France and settled one of the early French colonies in the 'New World' back in the early 1600s. There's a decent chunk of info here.

I don't understand people who do.

I can 'hear' it on the screen. Along the same lines as Injun - indian, Mejum - medium, and ijut - idiot. 'J' seems to be able to replace 'di' in lots o' words. Between this and homers discussion of English gov't, history/et al, I'm finally amused. Educators have made this a rather boring discipline for me.

Right. So are there ethnical differences between present day Cajuns and Acadians? I like tabasco sauce.

It depends. There are Cajuns without Acadian surnames, but with mostly Acadian heritage. It all depends. Personally, the majority of my ancestors were Acadian. I have a dash of German, Isleo, and either Irish or Scot (not sure since I haven't dug into the particulars of that ancestor). Again, it's an ethnicity like any other. If a German married into an Acadian family, lived among them, and adopted their lifestyle, and then the children remained among and intermarried with other Acadian families, they're just as 'Cajun' as anyone else even though their name might be Waguespack or Trosclair (which are derivatives of the original German Wagensbach and Troxler). The original person wouldn't necessarily be considered Cajun, but the subsequent generations could be.

heh...well, it's featured prominently there because Shane Bernard's day job is Company Historian for McIlhenny (the makers of Tabasco). Don't take it as much of anything more than that.

more fiddling with the inline image ... I wanted to see if I could do several in a row. Besides, I have all these pictures ...

Left to right, avatars for my birthday, release of Spider-Man, Cinco de Mayo, release of Star Wars II, Memorial Day. I missed Mother's Day mainly for lack of time.
I'll be building a shrine on one of my webspaces in the next few months.

Interesting. They're aligned by the image bottom.

Memorial Day is an homage to Bill Mauldin, BTW.
