Best Buy to Stop Carrying Visor Deluxe

I have been calling around to all the local BestBuy's looking for the Clie710. I called the Mall of Georgia store and they do not have them in stock. In fact, none of them do. However, the guy there told me that the Clie710 is a closeout item and he does not expect anymore in. I would assume this is to make way for the Clie770.

What is even more interesting, is he told me the HandSpring Visor Deluxe was also a close out item. He also said there was one more PDA that was a Closeout item, but he could not remember which one. The reason he said they do this, is to make room for new products.

I find this very interesting. If they are going to stop selling the Deluxe, I see no reason to keep the Solo. This would mean HandSprings low end PDA would be the Platinum, at least in retail BestBuy stores.

Interesting to see what HandSpring has in the works. A lot of the recent rumors have been about a Deluxe replacement, so this could add some credit to that.

The visor deluxe is a GREAT PDA but, the cost of the planinum isn't too much for its slight benefit, I guess.

Staples has told me that the Platinum is going out too. Along with the solo. This will happen in October.

The Best Buy here in Greenville, SC has the Deluxes priced at $169.70. (The .70 indicates a closeout item). The Platinum Silver was $199.70 but the Platinum Black was $199.99 - odd.

That is the same thing the guy told me. Anything .70 indicates closeout.

Yup... the closeout price is true... but yesterday I my wife decided it was time to upgrade from her Deluxe (we're passing it onto my Mom to get her techincally educated) and we got a Platinum. But the Graphite (black) color was $167.90...... we don't know why, but $30 less is $30 less. Even though something new might be coming out in October, it's still a good deal.

Plus spending an extra $25 for the 2yr BestBuy extended warranty is a good deal because if anything happens to it, I can take it back for a replacement..... and if the Platinmum is no longer offered, then they will have to replace it with something equal in value.... which is still a good deal. BestBuy definetly is good about replacements if you spend the $$$ for the extended warranty...

BestBuy's Extended Warranty too good to be true?

Does anyone else have experience with BestBuy's Extended Warranty program? Is this what others are experiencing (that they are easy to deal with when it comes to replacing the unit with a comparable unit if the item you have is no longer in stock?

Hmmm...
