Angry

Forgive me father if I have posted this message to the wrong board. (I did try searching for an answer and had no luck)

I'm the proud new father of a 5.4oz silver Visor Platinium.

In any event, I'm beginning to enter information in the address book, and I find that the truncation that happens when you display a name is VERY annoying. I have many contacts at one location, and for me to display by company name still does me no good.

I did try changing the font size, and that helps a LOT, but ideally, I'd like the big font displayed with the full last name and no phone number. Once I find the contact, I have no problem tapping the display to receive the phone number, but DON'T TRUNCATE THE LAST NAME FOR ME!

Also, is there no backlight in the Platinium? Argh, how annoying if you're using Mapquest and driving at night!!

To activate the backlight, press and hold the power button for approximately 2 seconds. Repeat to turn it off.

Talking Keep it small

Hey Abs, it'll be better to just keep the font size small. You'll get used to it quick.

Lightbulb Company names as categories

This problem annoyed me too. I also found it difficult finding the contact I wanted with a bazillion names in the address book. Here is how I worked around it. I set up categories using the company names as the category names. I then put all the people from those companies under the appropriate category. I also have a few other categories for those that don't fit under the company names. I then set up the preferences to read last name, first name and viola! I get full last names and phone numbers. I hope this helps.

Isn't there a limit to the number of categories? 16, I think.

Red face Well whaddyaknow

Your right, there is a limit. I hadn't hit it yet, so I didn't realize there was one. After reading your post, I played with it and, yup, after 15 categories, it wouldn't let me add another. (It seems that the "All" category counts to reach the magic 16 number) So, as long as you don't need more than 16 categories, this will work, otherwise.....

I believe that there is an addressbook replacement that will allow you to do what you want to, address plus or something like that. Do a search at Palmgear.

One workaround to this problem is to go into the individual records, tap the Details... button and select an unused field (for example, Other). As long as you don't have any data in that field, the full width of the screen will be used to display the name.
