-- HandyGPS ready to ship to pre-order customers (?) (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=5501)
Got this in my inbox this morning:
Dear customer:
Thank you for choosing HandyGPSTM as your first choice in navigational tools.
We apologize to you for the delays in shipment, which is caused by the unexpectedly long time needed to go through the rigorous
compatibility tests and to set up the credit card payment system at our web site. As part of the solution, we will start to ship our
HandyGPSTM to pre-ordered customers upon receiving checks or money-order, and you will soon be contacted by us when it is
your turn.
We also apologize to those of you who made pre-orders outside the US because we will not be able to ship the HandyGPSTM
outside the US due to the strict regulations of the countries controlling their telecommunication services.
While we are making our best efforts to deliver the HandyGPSTM to you in time, we would like to invite you to www.nexian.com
for a trial of the HandyGPSTM maps. The street-level maps covering the entire US will be available by July 10, 2000.
We once again apologize to you for any inconvenience these delays have caused you.
Thank you.
Nexian Inc.
That could be a real bummer if you pre-ordered the Handy GPS, and once the GeoDiscovery was announced you decide that you want that one instead. Its almost like they're forcing you to buy(you don't have to, but it can feel like it) their product which was great when it was first announced, but now has been outdone by other product announcements. I think that they are going to find alot of customers who pre-ordered and now have decided that they want something else.

Yes I got the same e-mail. Three times, in fact. It's a tough decision, though, whether to go with this or wait another couple months for the more expensive GeoDiscovery. Given all the delays with HandyGPS, though, I think I'll at least wait a bit until I hear more about it.
Both websites talk about road maps, but does anyone know if either of these modules could be used to navigate on the water?
I wanted to use it as a back-up unit for my Garmin. Okay, I wanted it for the cool factor. I admit it.
Thanks--
Jay
