-- Thincom modem and MSN help (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=11796)

Posted by Dwight on 02-13-2001 12:19 PM:

I just bought a used Thincom modem and I have MSN as my ISP. I want to use a PPP connection, but when I dial in, it never connects.

MSN support has not helped, except to tell me that the password must be lower case.

Thanks,
Dwight

I believe you also need to prefix the username with MSN/.

MSN/username

I have set that up as well, but to no avail. I wish I could post a screen shot of the network preferences.
Under details, I have
Connection type: PPP
Idle Timeout 2 minutes
Query DNS is checked
IP address is automatic.
No script

On the main Network preferences screen, I created a service --Dellnet
User Name is MSN/dseuser
Password (I have assigned this)
Phone (my local dial-up number 6759885)

But it does not connect.
Thanks,
Dwight

I use MSN with my Prism and SpringPort with no problem. My "details" are somewhat different.

Connection type: PPP
Idle Timeout: Power Off
Query DNS: is checked.
IP Address: is checked.
Script: has "end" on the page.

Also, for user name the "msn" prefix before the "/username" should not be capitalized.

Thanks for your reply. I checked the phone numbers again and changed the msn/ to lower
case as well, but still no connection. Now I'm wondering about a script to control what happens
or maybe a log file to see what is really happening. Any experience with either of those?

Thanks,
Dwight
