For those of you that are clumsy it looks like some company has just release handheld insurance. I just saw the story on palmgear: http://www.palmgear.com/news/showne...mp;resID=11731. Here is the insurance companies website: http://www.palmslostorstolen.com/

I have no affiliation with this company, just thought this was an interesting story.

Staples...

I purchased the Staples insurance, and recently dropped my Visor. I brought it in, and they game me a new one; no questions asked

Alas it one reads the fine print of the Terms of Coverage, under 5 c:
quote:
5. PERILS NOT INSURED AGAINST - The policy does not insure against: [...](c) Breakage of glass or articles of a brittle nature, unless caused by fire, theft or attempt thereat, windstorm, earthquake, flood, explosion, malicious damage or accident to the conveying vehicle or unless likewise occasioned, against marring or scratching;
So if you drop it, the insurance will not cover it. If it was in an auto accident, then it will cover.

The Staples warranty said that too. Maybe it was the incoherency of the clerk that let my dropped Visor slide by. I like it because it gave me a sense of security.

Smile PDA Insurance

WE do cover if you drop your PDA or if any damage comes to it by loss, accident or theft.
We do not cover for normal wear and tear on the screen itself.

Section #5 Terms of Coverage
Wear and tear, gradual deterioration, inherent vice, or damage sustained due to any process or while actually being worked upon and resulting therefrom; (c) Breakage of glass or articles of a brittle nature, unless caused by fire, theft or attempt thereat, windstorm, earthquake, flood, explosion, malicious damage or accident to the conveying vehicle or unless likewise occasioned, against marring or scratching;

Thumbs up Great to be covered!

I have to give kudos to the PalmsLostOrStolen.com folks. The service is a great idea, and 3.99 a month is not a bad price for insurance, even with a $35 dollar deductible.. but what REALLY sold me is that backupbuddy software is included in the deal. Backup Buddy usually costs 29.99 anyway, so that's equivalent to 7 months of free insurance!

How can they verify "stolen"?

can you spell P O L I C E R E P O R T ?

I thought you could. This is just a guess, but it's pretty much SOP for an insurance company.
