Maybe Springboard is a Money Loser

I was wondering if the Springboard could actually cost Handspring money.

With the Treo, it would seem they will get a cut of the monthly communications cost.

If a third party produces a phone, pager, etc then wouldn't Handspring be cut out of getting a piece of the monthly fees?

Not sure if this is true; anybody have any thoughts on this?
