-- New driver - Stowaway, v1.5? (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=12944)

Talking

http://www.targus.com/prod_faq.asp?sku=PA800U

The above link refers to the Visor's new driver
for the Stowaway (Targus) keyboard, "PA800v15.exe".
From the description posted there it suppose to
support the dvorak keyboard layout.

One problem, I'm unable to download it at this time.
Has anybody tried the new driver and whether it's
worthwhile (relatively bugfree) in having? Presently
I'm using version 1.2.

Thanks,
Jonathan

Smile at last!!!!!!

I can't claim to have a vast expertise on 1.5's stability, since I've only used it for a couple of hours. It seems quite OK, though, and there is one HUGE plus: they've finally fixed the Graffiti glitch that I was experiencing after removing my Visor from the Stowaway, and forced me to uncheck/check the "Enable Keyboard" option. The Stowaway is now perfect. (well, almost - still a pain in the a** to type accents in French, but I'll survive)

Oh, new icon for the app, too :-)

Have you tried this keyboard localizer program for French keyboard help?

Thanks for the tip, but yes, I checked it out not long ago. Unfortunately, it requires version 1.1 of the Keyboard driver, which brings me back to the annoying bug that version 1.5 corrected...

(not to mention that 15$ sounds kind of steep to me for this kind of app...)

Six - thanks for pointing this out. I've had the same graffiti glitch. I would have passed on the update thinking it was just for the Dvorak keyboard if I hadn't seen your post.

Thumbs up It Works!!!!

Thank goodness. This is the first driver that I've installed which has restored my scroll , rt. shift and del. functionality.

It's been goofy since got the keyboard a year ago.

Thanks for the link.

IR Receive not working

Can someone else verify this, I upgraded the Stowaway Keyboard driver to v 1.5 on my Prism and noticed that now I can't receive beamed data. I can still beam, but not receive.

When I disable the keyboard driver, I can intermittantly receive beamed data, but when it does recognize, it's very slow.

I had no IR receiving problems using v 1.2 of the driver. If this is true, can some please post v 1.2 of the driver. I can't find any other versions of the keyboard driver on the Targus site, and the original CD came with v 1.0.

Thanks in advance.

Tried to upload file, but it's not allowed. Tried to post it on my personal site, but it would not accept the file.

Cool Other features not mentioned...

I thought I would point out for people like me who read that the v1.5 driver just adds support for the dvorak keyboard layout...it also lets you configure the action of the tab key, it can be configured to move between fields OR work as a standard tab (like Fn-Tab used to do).

Red face Afterburner conflict with stowaway's v1.5 Driver

After installing stowaway new driver 1.5. I have been experiencing difficulities in hotsyn. and using the keyboard. it refused to work or some funny problems crop up. After trying out ways and means to find the problem. I narrowed it to the afterburner 3.0t hack. To workaround the problem, I have to lower the speed of the "keyboard" to "norm" or 16Hz in order for the keyboard and hotsyn. to work. Hopefully the problem will go away. Hope this will help for people having the same problem.

Yes, I was glad to get rid of the Grafitti bug, but I think I've found another problem with the 1.5 version. Now I have to disable the keyboard before I can HotSync with my serial cradle at work. If I don't disable it, I get a Fatal Error as soon as I place Visor in the cradle.

Works fine at home with USB, though. Anyone else noticed this problem? I emailed Targus last week, but they have never gotten back with me.

That's due to the fact that the driver uses the same mechanism as the Visor does for serial hotsyncs (for the technically curious, pin 2 (KBD) is tied to ground). What's probably happening is that the driver takes over, thinking it's attached to a keyboard (since the serial cradle would look like one to it) and whatever it's trying to do is confusing the HotSync Manager. This is also the reason they tell you to make sure the Visor is Off before attaching it to the Stowaway... if not, it will think you want to hotsync and launch the HotSync app.

I don't seem to have this problem. I can HotSync using a serial cradle (& Win NT 4) with no problem. I wonder if the problem is somewhere else?

I can confirm I have this exact problem in the serial cradle and not my USB. I had wondered what was causing this, guess I know now to turn off the software.

I'm also having to turn the "enable Keyboard" button on and off to get it to wake up.

And I've found that you DO NOT install the latest version of matrix on your visor if you have the keyboard software on it... even if matrix isn't running. You will have to do a hard reset and reinstall. I spent HOURS one day tracking down what software was causing the conflicts by installing stuff over and over til I narrowed it down to just those two apps being installed. I sent both companies an email a few days ago and I got no responses yet. I hope I can use Matrix again I like the basic security it offers.

Clovis, I had the same problem, then came to this conclusion.

When placing my Prism onto the Stowaway Beam Receive was automatically switched to OFF.

When removing my Prism from Stowaway Beam Receive was automatically switched back to ON.

HOWEVER, if I remove the Prism from the Stowaway with the Prism powered on, Beam Receive stays OFF and requires me to automatically switch it back to ON.

Make sure when attaching or removing the Visor from the Stowaway that it is always powered off.

Please let me know if this resolved your issue. I am very curious.

Ive also had significant problems with my VDX since installing version 1.5.

Initially after install my system acts stable. Soon the VDX consistently needs to be warm reset. Eventually the following corruptions occur and I must hard reset:

Corruption 1. Within preferences I can no longer adjust Beam Receive to ON. Every time I drag the Pop-up menu selector to ON, the selection only shows OFF.

Corruption 2. Network preferences are no longer available. Apparently the library has been corrupted.

Corruption 3. Oh yeah, the keyboard doesnt work either.

After hard-resetting 4x's for this issue, Ive finally just gone back to 1.0. (I had saved 1.5 over the previous updates and therefore cant go back to those.)

Link to driver 1.5 for Mac folks

Downloading the .exe file isn't much help for Mac folks. Go to the ThinkOutside website for the .zip file.
