I find it very interesting (and perhaps a little scary, too) that I actually was able to follow and understand all the French so far. The last time I studied French was junior year in high school - 1967.

Should be a double d'oh considering it was in the post you replied to. To quote the Budweiser ad campaign, "Vrai...vrai".

I have to say my oral french (pun intended, now get you mind out of the gutter!) is a lot better than my writen french...
After mid-highschool I never wrote down anything in french while I have spoken it plenty of times...

Alli, you should be pleased that we all thought so highly of our French teachers that we are still able to (somewhat) use the language.

Of course, my French teacher's first name was "Dixie," so that should tell you about how my French "accent" sounds.

C'mon, secretly you love this discussion...

Posted by Alli on 01-30-2003 11:51 PM:

Ok, I'll cop to loving the discussion, but cringing at the French. Then again, I cringe at some of the English too.... And it is good to know that after x number of years you do remember a thing or two. I wonder what my kids will remember years down the road.

A French teacher whose first name is Dixie...well don't that just beat all! LOL

Is there a French translation for I reckon?

Depends on what kind of French you're speaking. The French would never suggest such a thing - they would insist that they KNOW. Qubecois...prolly not either...too cold to waste time reckonin'. And in Cajun French it's "ah rekun." Similar to English as we know it.

at last, someone who comprehends my torture.

I comprehend your torture, having your bare skull burried in snow seems like torture to me too

You're lucky that I have a good sense of humor, texien.

If you don't mind using the manual tailleur. My kids revert to using pens cause I don't have an electric sharpener!

You gotta have a good sense of humor to live in Houma.

Tell me about it, especially when you come from a more Cajun community.
