-- MW Dictionary module arrived!!! (http://discussion.visorcentral.com/vcforum/showthread.php?threadid=10293)
Received the module via priority mail today 12-22-2k. Interface is pretty ordinary, haven't had time to really put it thru the paces. It is not color enabled. No crashes yet. Will post more after I get a chance to use it a little more...

I got the module from PalmGear. I ordered around 11-07-2k and with shipping the total was about $55.95

Okay, I never used a Palm OS dictionary before, so I dont really have a basis for comparison. This is a single height module so it fits flush with the back of my prism. When you slip the module in, Franklin Reader is loaded on your device (but is removed when you take out the module) and by selecting it you can open the dictionary. The interface is monochrome text and very ordinary looking. There is a text field at the bottom of the screen that allows you to look up words. The results narrow down as you type each letter.
You can bookmark entries from the edit menu when there are definitions you want to keep handy. The search feature allows you to look up words you cant spell, or pull up a list containing the various forms of a word. What I mean is that you can search for "mark" and get lists that include bookmark, marksman etc.
This isnt a really flashy module, but I have to believe it will come in handy in a variety of situations. Since it is so small, I can carry it anywhere I take the visor. It is advertised to carry over 100,000 words, a plus. There are no phonetic spellings with the definitions, which is a minus. I really wish they had included color in the module (I wonder if this could be flash updated or upgraded?) I think the search feature is very helpful and the program is easy to navigate, especially with the shortcuts!
Overall, I think the module is a good buy for me. I dont have the room on my visor for a downloadable version, but I like the idea of carrying portable reference with me. If I start freelancing again, this module puts me another step closer to being completely mobile. On the downside, I think they could have added more to the package, like a thesaurus, or a companion word processor that could use the module as a spell checker, but it does provide the basics and I think I will like it more as time goes on.
Has anyone else tried it yet??

Does it allow you to lookup a word while in another app (e.g. Memo)?
In order to look up a word while in another app you could copy the word and paste it in the lookup field. There does not seem to be a way to do it otherwise...

That's too bad. Still, thanks for the response.
I find it hard to believe that they didn't somehow include a spell checker as a part of this module. That's pretty silly.
You can check spelling with the search feature. When you go to the search screen, enter the word the way you think it is spelled and the module will bring up a list of possible matches

Is it an 8MB Module?
I've just got my dictionary module and I've been playing with it for a few hours. It's nice but I was waiting for something much better than the Freeware Noah dictionary. There are no colors and the font options are even too small or too big. The shortcuts are also useless. If you want to go back you have to use < and > for forward. It is very hard to do those symbols in my Visor and I think hardware buttons shortcuts would have been much better. The interface looks boring, like a DOS shell with not colors or anything. The only good thing about it is the search feature that looks for words that are similar to the one you entered if misspelled. I hope they release an update for this module
Does anybody know if I can use File Mover or something similar to access the module and copy files on it? If you go to the Info menu you will see that there is a lot of free space available in the module
Thanks
Al
