Thumbs up Stowaway Keyboard at Amazon for $10

PalmInfoCenter has this tidbit about a Visor Stowaway available from Amazon.com for $10.00 after a $30 Targus rebate.

Thanks! My mom ordered one to replace my old broken one (which will go to my brother probably)! She also ordered one for her Palm VII (which she got for free from something, she doesn't use the wireless stuff), my dad has one for his Palm V, and I'm about to get one for my Clie. We're now a family with 4 PDAs, 4 different connectors, and soon 4 Stowaways.

Question

i just check out the site, and it is selling for $59.94 (-$30 = $29.94) unless my math is wrong. how are they coming up with getting it for only $10.

Angry

Amazon raised the price of the keyboard very early Saturday morning. I checked it late Friday night and it was still $39.94. I checked a few hours later and the price had changed by $20.

Talking

It's midnight Sunday morning. I just checked the Amazon website and it's showing the $39.94 price again.

The rebate form itself only specifies "Purchase a Stowaway at Participating Retailers." However, there is no list of who is participating.

microso... i mean targus...

I suspect Targus realized that Amazon was cutting them off at the knees with the mail-in rebate and decided to change the terms of the rebate after the Amazon price was announced.

If you already paid for (and printed out) the "participating retailers" rebate form, then you should get in touch with Targus and tell them you expect they will honor the rebate because they should not be changing the terms of rebates in the middle of an offering period.

(they can.. but its just bad business).

Unhappy frustrated...

After reading all this "will they, won't they" I decided to check with Targus about the rebate.

After a couple of days, here's what they wrote:

I'm very sorry that you have encountered a delay in corresponding to your request. I would be more then happy to validate your rebate, directly through our office.

So there it is. I'm not too sure about their grasp of English, but I think this means that the Rebate will be honored.

The only problem now is that our friends at Amazon have upped their price again and I was waiting to get the Targus response before ordering.

Oh well, couldn't use the Stowaway with my Active Armor encased Visor Pro anyway (for this sentence read "sour grapes")

Thumbs up

I picked up the Stowaway from Amazon for $39.94, and even if I don't end up getting the rebate (I did submit it ) I'll be happy.

This is one of the coolest things I've bought for my Visor. Works great with a Prism+VisorPhone, and it's such a luxury to be able to type on a REAL keyboard with my Visor. Definitely worth the 40 bucks!

I'll be mailing my rebate in today, we will see if they honor it.
i was in Best Buy last week and they were still selling them for 99.99, so 39.94 (less a $5 off) coupon from Celestial Seasonings Tea and free shipping was still worth it.

I purchased the keyboard at Amazon, received it, mailed in the rebate form with proof of purchase, and just recently received an e-mail stating that my rebate is valid and is in the final stages of processing. So it appears the $30 rebate does work for purchases thru Amazon. Plus, the keyboard is cool to use.

That's encouraging to hear. Do you know which rebate number you used? There were more than one that appeared to be the same, but when I've called RebatesHQ to clarify, I get different answers depending on what day I call. So since you were successful, which did you use?

Thanks.

Anyone else get their rebates? Mine came in early December, and since Amazon's price was $34 when I bought it, that makes the net price $4! :-)

The strange thing is, my rebate was first denied for "wrong date", then before I could make a complaint, it was corrected to "approved".

It was a decent price at $34, but at $4 it has to be one of the better deals I've scored!

Posted by coville on 12-31-2002 02:19 PM:

I received mine and I did try to complain. On the phone I was told Amazon was not a participating retailer. Had two different rebates I had sent in about the same time for 2 different Stowaway purchases. Couldn't dispute what they told me as the form didn't say who was participating just limited it to participating retailers. Thought that was the end of it. Month later my check appeared in the mail!

Smile

I too got my rebate in dec
same situtation, copied the rebate form before they changed it
so got the amazone price of $34 and $30 rebate for key board.
