Angry

I recognize Handspring is brand new, but I am a little concerned about quality control. Here's my saga.

I placed an order on their web site. My Palm III died, and I figured, why spend $100 to fix it or $450 for a Palm V-x when I could get a Visor Deluxe for $249?

First, it took me days to get onto Handspring's web site. It was constantly down. I finally got in and ordered. I checked back a few days later and all the links for order on line were gone, as were the "check status" links. In tiny, tiny print there was a phone number, which I missed the first time. I called toll free info, and got a number that put me into something called a Meridian voice mail system. I went back on the web site and found the number, called. BTW, directory info has NEVER heard of this phone # so apparently Handspring has so many orders that they do not want to have a published number.

After being put on hold for 40 minutes around 7 pm last night, I reached someone in Toronto who promised tocheck on the status of my order (was it even received???) and get back to me shortly. Never heard back.

Why am I not filled with confidence?

Um, Handspring's order center is in NY, and you are the only person I've ever heard of to call 'Meridian whatever' so I think the problem might be on your end. Others have been calling Handspring since the 14th.

The call center is actually in Toronto, Canada with the tech support and customer service numbers routed through their office in Buffalo, New York.

I feel the Visor will be a very reliable piece of equipment. The ordering troubles aren't completely their fault. They have to "hire-out" for certain things...

I would like to believe that the Visor will be reliable product but I cannot believe the run-around that HandSpring is giving us. With all of their customers and potential customers asking all these questions, you'd think that they would at least some info on their web-site as to when it will be ready to take orders again; when the Visors will ship; etc. HandSpring is coming across as an arrogant company.

Guys, FYI 'Meridian' is a phone system produced by Northern Telecom (Nortel). If you work in an office, it's likely that you use Nortel Meridian phones. They are becoming somewhat of a standard.

Red face

Yes, Meridian is a voicemail system. But when you call toll free info for Handspring, you get a number that puts you into (presumably) private voicemail, not an outside customer line. If you call regular directory info, at least as of the time of my post, you don't get the 888 number nor even a regular "pay" long distance number--directory info says they have NO listing. Gee.

These are honorable people. I'm not concerned at being ripped off. I am concerned as to whether my order was even received at this point. Waiting is one thing. Waiting for something that never will arrive is another issue.
